Crystal Clear · support and rooting

Moss Poles [Classic]

A transparent D-shaped moss pole that acts as both a support and a rooting surface. It brings nodes and aerial roots close to moist sphagnum, guides the plant upwards and extends discreetly as it grows.

From a simple support to a root-growing environment

The flat, closed back and ventilated front keep moist sphagnum where the plant needs it. Aerial roots pass through the cells and grow into the material, instead of simply resting on a dry surface.

  • The D-shaped cross-section brings the growing side of the plant close to the rooting material.
  • The closed back reduces evaporation and keeps the setup tidier.
  • The perforated front allows contact, airflow and natural entry of aerial roots.
  • The next unit fits onto the existing one without changing systems.

Roots enter through the cells

Nodes rest against the front and aerial roots reach the moist sphagnum directly.

The D shape keeps the material close to the plant

The flat back reduces evaporation while the cellular front faces the nodes.

01

Larger, more mature leaves

Steady upward growth and the opportunity to root into the pole help many climbing aroids develop more naturally.

02

Slower drying

The closed back and ventilation only at the front retain moisture longer than a fully open support.

03

An extendable system

When the plant approaches the top, add another unit of the same size and continue without rebuilding the planting.

Which size suits your plant?

Choose according to future growth, leaf size and how much material you want the pole to hold—not only the plant’s current height.

For large or fast-growing plants, start with a sufficiently large size. More internal volume means more moisture and a more stable rooting environment. A young Monstera may need XL from the start.

Inside the pole

Sphagnum moss

Retains high moisture levels while allowing airflow, so aerial roots can develop inside the pole without excessive compression.

The right growing medium for the plant

Use a growing medium suited to the species you grow. For climbing aroids, Sybasoil Aroid Premium Mix is an excellent option: its loose, chunky structure provides aeration, good drainage and balanced moisture while holding the base of the pole firmly. For other plants, choose an appropriately aerated, free-draining mix.

Completing the setup

05 · Fill without excessive pressure

Soak the sphagnum first, then pack it firmly but not too tightly. Fill the section inside the pot with the potting mix, not continuously wet moss.

06 · Secure in the pot

Place the pole in an empty pot and add enough growing medium to hold it upright, leaving space for the root ball.

07 · Secure the nodes

Attach the plant gently with a plant tie. The nodes rest against the pole and the leaves face the light source.

08 · Extend in good time

Add an identical unit when the roots reach about two-thirds of the upper pole, with an overlap of around 7–10 cm.

Keep moisture consistent, not permanently saturated

The moss pole becomes part of the root environment, so it needs regular watering, feeding and timely planning for extensions.

Water from above

Water from the top so moisture spreads down through all the material.

Regular feeding

Sphagnum contains no nutrients of its own, so it needs gentle, regular feeding.

Use the same size for extensions

Stack only poles of the same size and closure position.

Classic Line compatibility

Does not connect to Front Opening moss poles or their accessories.

Important for already mature plants

Installing a pole in a large, established plant can be difficult and may damage roots or stems. Starting a new setup from a cutting is often the simplest solution.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about choosing, using and caring for the product.

01Can I stack different sizes?

No. For correct fit and alignment, every unit must be the same size and closed in the same position.

02How tightly should I fill the pole?

The material should be firm enough to support the structure, but not excessively compressed. Very dense filling hinders root growth, while very loose filling reduces stability.

03When should I add the next extension?

Before the roots reach the top. Ideally, once they have grown through about two-thirds of the last unit, add another pole of the same size with a 7–10 cm overlap.

04Is moss or other filling material included?

No. Sphagnum moss or other filling material is not included. Potting mix, dripper, plant ties, pot and plant are also sold separately.
