Πανέμορφη ποικιλία ετσεβέριας, που αναπτύσσεται αργά και σχηματίζει μεγάλη ροζέτα  με διάμετρο 30 εκ με ιδιαίτερα, χυμώδη, μυτερά φύλλα και με τα παλιά φύλλα να παίρνουν μία ελαφριά ροζ απόχρωση.

Όλη η επιφάνεια των φύλλων καλύπτεται εντελώς από  μια λευκή κηρώδη επίστρωση που δίνει στο φυτό μια πολύ ελκυστική εμφάνιση. Πρέπει να αποφεύγεται το πότισμα στα φύλλα του φυτού γιατί μπορεί να διώξει την κηρώδη επίστρωση. Προτείνεται το πότισμα μόνο στο χώμα της γλάστρας.

Η προέλευση αυτής της ποικιλίας ήταν ένα μικρό μυστήριο μέχρι τις 12 Νοεμβρίου 2004, όπου ο Myron Kimnach, ειδικός στις Ετσεβέριες, συγγραφέας και πρώην διευθυντής του Huntington Botanic Garden, ανέφερε ότι η ποικιλία αυτή είναι στενά συνδεδεμένη με την E.colorata forma brandtii.

Πρότεινε να ονομαστεί Echeveria colorata 'Mexican Giant' σημειώνοντας ότι αυτή η ονομασία είναι σωστή καθώς ήταν η πρώτη που δημοσιεύτηκε μαζί με την περιγραφή του φυτού, το 1977 από τον Mac Holmes.

Το ίδιο όνομα χρησιμοποιήθηκε αργότερα στο βιβλίο ‘Echeveria cultivars’ από τους Lorraine Schulz και Attila Kapitany.

Η Echeveria colorata forma brandtii συναντάται στο Jalisco του Μεξικού, σε υψόμετρο 6800 μέτρα. Η ονομασία colorata πιθανότατα αναφέρεται στο κόκκινο χρώμα που πολλές φορές έχει η νέα βλάστηση και τα παλιότερα φύλλα.

It is a succulent plant, that grows in the shape of a solitary rosette, which can reach up to 40 cm in diameter.

It has large, fleshy, erect leaves of a silver-green color, with the tip, colored with red-wine shades, covered with a whitish pruina. It is an ideal plant to give a touch of elegance and chic to your interiors.

Care

• It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.
• It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.
• Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in autumn and winter.
• The best soil is a well draining one, for example formed by a mixture of peat and pumice so that the water does not stagnate.
• They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
