Epipremnum aureum ‘Champs Élysées’ brings vivid chartreuse foliage with a textured, gently rippled surface and fine deeper-green marks that interrupt the field of light.

The cultivar combines Neon's brightness with greater texture and movement, producing a result that changes noticeably with the viewing angle.

Boulevard-bright colour, relief texture and green routes create an unusual expression of E. aureum.

The blade is not visually flat; gentle folds break the light and emphasise venation.

Light and variegation

Provide bright indirect light near an east-facing or filtered south-facing window. Deep shade reduces pace and contrast, while hot direct sun may fade or scorch the blades.

Watering cycle

Check the mix 2–4 cm down and water once that layer has dried. Wet the whole root ball and drain fully without leaving water in the decorative outer pot.

Humidity and clean leaves

Normal household humidity is sufficient, although stable moderate humidity helps new leaves open cleanly. Wipe dust gently rather than relying on repeated misting.

Temperature and growth

Keep it ideally at 18–28°C and away from cold draughts. Water use falls in lower light, so the winter watering rhythm should slow accordingly.

Substrate and support

Use a chunky, airy aroid mix in a pot with unrestricted drainage. It may trail or climb; on a support, mature leaves usually increase in size.

Nutrition and repotting

During active growth, use Nutri One, a complete liquid NPK feed with trace elements, only as directed and never on bone-dry mix. After repotting into a fresh enriched substrate, wait before feeding so nutrition is not needlessly doubled.

An accepted Araceae species

Epipremnum aureum is an accepted climbing species in the Araceae. ‘Champs Élysées’ is a cultivated selection, not a separate wild species.

Native origin

The documented native range of the species is Mo’orea in the Society Islands. Its present global distribution is largely the result of cultivation and introduction.

Many historical names, one accepted name

Older literature used combinations including Pothos aureus and Scindapsus aureus. The accepted modern name is Epipremnum aureum.

Aerial roots are climbing tools

Roots form at nodes to anchor the stem to a support and absorb moisture. They do not automatically mean the plant needs a larger pot.

Maturity changes geometry

With a stable support, good light and time, successive leaves can enlarge and develop more pronounced morphology than juvenile foliage.

Variegation carries less chlorophyll

Pale tissue contains less functional chlorophyll. It therefore benefits from ample indirect light but scorches more easily in harsh sun.

Araceae tissues contain microscopic calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing releases these raphides and causes immediate irritation.

Age, light and natural variability affect how deeply the folds appear. Judge the overall trend across several leaves rather than one blade.

02 When exactly should I water?

Check the top 2–4 cm and the pot's weight. If the upper layer is dry and the pot lighter, water deeply and drain; if it remains cool and moist, wait.

03 Is Champs Élysées the same as Neon?

No. They share a bright chartreuse palette, but Champs Élysées is distinguished by its relief surface and deeper green markings.

04 Why are leaves turning yellow?

One old lower leaf can yellow naturally. Several at once, especially with constantly wet mix, call for a check of watering, drainage, light and roots.

05 Should it trail or climb a support?

Both forms are valid. Trailing creates long lines, while a stable support encourages upward growth and can produce larger, more mature leaves.

06 Is it safe around cats, dogs and young children?
