A complete, ready-to-use substrate for everyday aroid growing. Its chunky composition combines an organic bioactive base, orchid bark, chunky perlite and coco husk chips, giving the root system air, effective drainage and balanced moisture without the mix compacting easily.
The 30/20/30/20 ratio combines an organic base, large inert particles and moisture-retentive materials without turning the mix into a dense, heavy mass.
A peat-free organic base with biocompost, organic humus, biochar and beneficial microorganisms.
High-quality bark that retains some moisture while maintaining air channels around the roots.
Large perlite granules that improve aeration, limit compaction and support drainage.
Durable coconut husk chips that retain moisture, reinforce the open structure and decompose slowly.
Orchid bark and chunky perlite create gaps that support air exchange and keep the structure more open.
The bark and coco husk chips retain some water, while the perlite helps excess water drain away.
The enriched organic base adds organic matter, biochar and beneficial microorganisms to the root environment.
It is particularly well suited to plants that prefer an aerated organic base and good drainage. Actual watering needs will still vary by species and growing environment.
Use a container with effective drainage and a size suited to the root ball.
Light, temperature, pot size and the root system determine how quickly it dries.
Work gradually around the root ball and avoid heavy compaction so the larger particles retain their air spaces.
Choose a clean pot with drainage openings and add an initial layer of mix.
Keep the root ball at approximately the same planting depth without burying the stem or crown more deeply.
Add the substrate gradually into the gaps and tap the sides gently instead of pressing it down firmly.
Moisten the mix evenly after repotting and allow all excess water to drain away.
Check moisture within the mix, the weight of the pot and the condition of the plant before watering again. The surface alone does not always reveal what is happening in the centre of the root zone.
Complete, ready-to-use substrate in a resealable bag.
This product contains the substrate only. Pot, plant, fertiliser, moss pole and tools are not included.
Store the bag in a cool, dry place and reseal it after use to limit contamination and preserve the structure of the mix.
Choose a pot that supports inspection and drainage, and use a small scoop to guide the chunky substrate around the root ball.

Clear pots with side aeration and an anti-spiral structure, allowing you to monitor roots and moisture.

No. Essential Mix is complete and ready to use. If the components have shifted during transport, gently mix the contents of the bag without crushing the larger pieces.
It is designed for everyday growing of aroids such as Philodendron, Syngonium and Epipremnum, and suits many Monstera, Scindapsus, Aglaonema and other plants that prefer an aerated, chunky organic substrate.
There is no single fixed interval for every plant. Water thoroughly and allow it to drain, then check moisture within the mix, the weight of the pot and the plant's needs before watering again.
BioActive Growing Medium provides an enriched organic base with humus, biochar and beneficial microorganisms, but it does not replace a long-term fertilising programme. Once the plant is established and actively growing, follow the dosage of a suitable fertiliser and the needs of the species.
