Light and red colour

Provide abundant filtered light from an east-facing window or a bright position set back from south- or west-facing glass. Deep shade can reduce colour intensity, while hot sun leaves scorch marks.

Watering rhythm

Avoid a fixed calendar. Wait until the top 2–4 cm has dried, water until it runs from the base and let the pot drain completely before returning it to its cover pot.

Air humidity

Normal household humidity is usually sufficient. If the air is very dry, a humidifier or plant grouping is more useful than frequent misting, which can mark the glossy blades.

Temperature

Maintain 18–26°C and protect it from temperatures below 15°C. Cold glass, air conditioning and sudden moves can stress new growth.

Substrate

Choose an airy aroid mix with an organic component and coarse materials that keep roots oxygenated. Effective drainage matters more than watering frequency alone.

Feeding and repotting

In spring and summer, use a complete liquid fertiliser as directed, around every 4–6 weeks. Repot once roots genuinely fill the container and increase the diameter by only one size.

Genus Aglaonema

Aglaonema is an accepted genus in the Araceae family. Heinrich Wilhelm Schott published the botanical name in 1829, and the genus includes tropical evergreen aroids valued for ornamental foliage.

Selection ‘Siam Red’

Aglaonema ‘Siam Red’ is sold as a modern cultivated selection of genus Aglaonema. The trade name is used at genus level; a breeder, parentage and documented first-release date are not publicly supplied with the name.

Geographic origin of the genus

Wild Aglaonema species are native from northeastern India to Papua New Guinea and are associated mainly with humid tropical forest floors. That range describes the genus, not the place where cultivated ‘Siam Red’ was created.

Red and green come from different pigments

Anthocyanins produce red and pink tones, while chlorophyll creates green areas and supports photosynthesis. Their visible balance forms the leaf pattern.
