English
Wonderful cultivar whose Portuguese name refers to molasses, sweetener of a bright color very similar to this succulent.
Characterized by a typical compact and not very large rosette shape, it usually grows at the apex of a robust and woody stem, showing all its splendor with roundish and slightly pointed leaves at the apex, softly concave like a spoon.
The epidermis of E. 'Melaco' is its real strength: from the delicate bright green center the foliage tends to fade towards a purple red until becoming, when abundantly exposed to sunlight, a chocolate-like shade, extremely peculiar and pleasant.
A particularly shiny epidermis ontributes to its originality, reflecting under the sunlight, for a final effect that is that of an absolutely brilliant and showy plant, such as not to go unnoticed!
Care
- It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.
- It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.
- Water moderately and only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce it to once every two months in autumn and to suspend it completely in winter.
- The best soil is a well draining one, for example formed by a mix of peat and pumice so that water does not stagnate.
- They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
