Dense and compact with a graceful, rounded form, Cryptomeria japonica ‘Little Champion’ stands out for its unusual foliage: many curvy branchlets are coated with layers of tightly held, awl-like needles that make them look like woven rope. In winter, the sparkling green foliage may take on handsome bronze highlights, especially the tips.
This compact cedar will grow in almost any well-drained soil, but for best results grow it in fertile, deep, always moist soil.
It requires no maintenance, pruning is not necessary but can be trimmed in early spring after all frosts.
It is very hardy - it will withstand about -27°C without protection.
