What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Syngonium‘Red Arrow’

Velvet above, fire below. Coincidence? 🧨

Family: Araceae · Pot diameter: 12 cm · Height: 25 cm

  • Dark velvet green
  • Deep red reverse
  • Arrow-shaped leaves
  • Bold two-tone colour
  • Collectable cultivar

Syngonium ‘Red Arrow’ hides its most dramatic colour beneath the leaves: the upper surface is dark green and softly velvet, while the reverse and petioles range through deep red to burgundy. As arrow-shaped blades turn at different angles, the two sides appear in sequence and create a dynamic display on a shelf, tall stand or bright corner. It is a collectable Syngonium with theatrical colour and an elegant fine silhouette.

The contrast comes not from stripes or spots but from two complete colour surfaces, so the plant changes as you move around it. Matte cream, charcoal and natural wood lift the burgundy without competing with velvet green, making this a distinctive choice for contemporary arrangements.

What makes it special

The cultivar's strength lies in the double-sided colour of every arrow-shaped leaf.

Form

Young arrow-shaped leaves appear successively along a flexible climbing stem.

Colour

Dark green above and red to burgundy below create bold contrast as the blade turns.

Texture

The upper surface has a soft matte feel, while coloured petioles add clean lines.

Why you’ll love it: it delivers two completely different colour experiences in one leaf and reveals burgundy with every movement of the crown.

In your space Placement & plant pairings Where it looks its best and which plants complement it
In your space

Where it looks its best

Near a bright window with a slim support or moss pole so the nodes can climb and the leaves can mature. Leave breathing room around the crown so each leaf shape reads clearly.

Plant pairings

Plants that complement it

Choices with compatible light needs and contrasting textures keep the arrangement balanced.

  • Philodendron ‘Pink Princess’ — pink sectors on broader dark leaves.
  • Aglaonema ‘Crete Flame’ — red margins in a compact upright form.
  • Scindapsus treubii ‘Dark Form’ — a near-solid metallic blade.

Care at a glance

Light

Bright indirect light for clear pink colour, without harsh direct sun.

Water

Water when the upper portion dries, allowing complete drainage.

Atmosphere

Moderate to higher humidity, gentle airflow and roughly 18–28°C.

Pets

Not safe for chewing or ingestion because of insoluble calcium oxalate crystals.

Detailed care Complete care guide Light, watering, humidity, substrate and nutrition in detail

Light for clear colour

Provide plentiful bright filtered light. In a very dark position the pink may green up, while harsh sun causes scorching.

Check the upper portion

Water when the upper portion has dried and the pot feels noticeably lighter. Wet evenly and allow complete drainage.

Gentle humidity

Moderate to higher humidity supports smooth leaf unfurling provided there is airflow. Avoid cold or hot draughts.

Stable temperature

Keep it at roughly 18–28°C and away from cold glass. Abrupt changes can slow young growth.

A mix designed for Syngonium

Syngonium Mix balances gentle moisture with aeration. Repot one size up when roots fill the pot.

Measured feeding

During active growth use Liquid Gold Leaf according to the label, on already moist mix. Do not feed a stressed plant.

Botanical identity Origin of the cultivar The species’ range and the history of the cultivated selection

Natural range

‘Red Arrow’ is a cultivated selection in the genus Syngonium, not a separate accepted wild species.

Habitat

In cultivation it is associated with dark red-backed Syngonium lines, without an established species identity for the cultivated selection.

Botanical identity

Its name describes the arrow-like shape and intensely red reverse, the two core ornamental traits.

From natural habitat to care: The climbing nature of Syngonium explains why a slim firm support organises nodes and lets the succession of leaves remain clear.

Greenleaf for Plant Nerds Scientific facts nobody asked for Botanical details for anyone curious about the plant behind the foliage

Anthocyanins create the red

Red pigments in lower-surface tissues absorb and reflect different wavelengths from chlorophyll.

Juvenile form is arrow-shaped

Juvenile Syngonium leaves are simpler, while mature climbing plants may develop deeper divisions.

Every node is a functional unit

A node carries a leaf, bud and potential aerial root, making it essential for propagation.

Tissues contain calcium oxalate

Insoluble raphides cause oral irritation if leaves or stems are chewed.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about growth and the plant’s most common signals.

01 Why does the red reverse look paler?

Intensity is influenced by leaf age, genetics and light level. Provide stable filtered light and assess several new leaves.

02 Why is the pink colour fading?

It is usually linked to insufficient light, overly strong sun or natural leaf ageing. Improve the position gradually without sudden exposure.

03 Will it remain compact?

Young Syngonium plants begin compact but eventually produce climbing stems. They can trail or be guided onto a slim support.

04 How is it propagated?

Use a healthy stem section containing at least one node. A single leaf without a node will not make a new plant.

05 What do yellow leaves mean?

One old lower leaf may age normally. Several at once call for checks of moisture, drainage, light and roots.

06 Is it safe for pets and children?

Not for chewing or ingestion. Insoluble calcium oxalate crystals can cause marked oral irritation.
