Velvet leaves with a tough side for wind and heat 🛡️
Family: Asteraceae · Pot diameter: 17 cm · Height: 20cm
Senecio ‘Angel Wings’® is a spectacular foliage selection with large rounded leaves covered in dense silver-white felt. Their surface resembles velvet and reflects light softly, creating an almost luminous mass that stands apart among green plants.
Generous scale and a clean monochrome palette give it a strong contemporary presence without relying on flowers for impact. Every new leaf adds another broad silver surface and makes the form feel richer. It is a true statement plant for anyone seeking texture, brightness and an immediate decorative result.
Three defining details that turn its botanical identity into real presence for a collection and interior.
Dense felt turns the foliage into a bright, almost white mass.
Countless hairs create an unusually soft, rich texture.
Large simple leaves provide design impact even without flowers.
Why you’ll love it: it acts like a silver reflector that brightens an entire planting composition.
Display it alone in matte charcoal or terracotta, or use it as a bright anchor among deep green foliage. Leave room around the large leaves so the full silhouette remains visible.
Pair it with plants that genuinely share its light, substrate and seasonal rhythm. Separate pots keep care precise for each one.
Abundant sun or very strong light for sturdy growth and clean silver-white foliage.
Water after the upper and middle mix have dried, never allowing prolonged saturation.
Good airflow, shelter from prolonged heavy rain and care during severe frost.
Senecio plants are not intended for consumption and may contain undesirable compounds. Keep it away from children and animals and prevent chewing or ingestion.
Provide full sun or an exceptionally bright position. If it has been sheltered, increase direct exposure gradually so tender new leaves can adjust.
Water deeply once the mix has dried noticeably, then let water drain. Do not keep it permanently dry while it is rapidly producing large leaves.
Air movement is essential for the hairy leaves because they hold droplets. Avoid frequent misting and excessively enclosed positions.
Protect from prolonged hard frost and winter saturation. In cool weather growth slows and the root zone needs longer to dry.
Use an airy but not excessively lean mix with a stable mineral fraction, structured organic matter and a free drainage hole.
Apply gentle balanced nutrition during active growth, avoiding excessive nitrogen that softens foliage. Repot before the root system becomes overly congested.
The Angel Wings trade plant corresponds to the protected cultivar Senecio candidans ‘Senaw’, selected for large unlobed leaves and dense silver-white felt.
Matias Eduardo Avendano Ceballos selected ‘Senaw’ in 2010 at Puerto Montt, Chile, from an individual raised from open-pollinated seed of an unnamed Senecio candidans. The pollen parent is unknown.
First vegetative propagation was by division in 2011 at Puerto Montt. The plant patent records stable reproduction by division, root cuttings and tissue culture.
From natural habitat to care: The S. candidans line comes from cool, windy southern South America and its dense felt limits wetting; in cultivation this translates into abundant light, airflow and no persistently wet foliage.
Silver-white colour is produced by dense hairs that reflect radiation and trap a thin layer of air.
Unlike many dusty millers, ‘Senaw’ was selected for broad leaves without deep divisions.
If it flowers, each apparently simple bloom is a head composed of many small tubular florets.
Division and tissue culture preserve the genotype and characteristic silver-white foliage of the cultivar.
Useful answers about light, watering, seasonal rhythm and the plant’s correct identity.

Dense silver coverage develops as a leaf expands. Insufficient light and persistent dampness can also produce a greener, softer appearance.
