The official cultivar ‘Senaw’

The Angel Wings trade plant corresponds to the protected cultivar Senecio candidans ‘Senaw’, selected for large unlobed leaves and dense silver-white felt.

Selection in Chile

Matias Eduardo Avendano Ceballos selected ‘Senaw’ in 2010 at Puerto Montt, Chile, from an individual raised from open-pollinated seed of an unnamed Senecio candidans. The pollen parent is unknown.

Stable vegetative propagation

First vegetative propagation was by division in 2011 at Puerto Montt. The plant patent records stable reproduction by division, root cuttings and tissue culture.

From natural habitat to care: The S. candidans line comes from cool, windy southern South America and its dense felt limits wetting; in cultivation this translates into abundant light, airflow and no persistently wet foliage.
