Family: Araceae
Pot diameter:12cm, Height:30cm
A unique variety!
Care
Substrate: The potting soil is very important for the proper growth of the variety. It should be light but not too light, as it should retain a small amount of water, essential for the philodendron. But the excess water should be able to be expelled so that no water remains in the roots of the plant.
It is ideally grown with a mixture of sphagnum and peat-based soil. Even a substrate of pure peat is fine for this variety, as it has good water retention and at the same time very good aeration that allows excess water to be removed from the pot holes. Very good results are also obtained with a peat-perlite mixture.
Light: Ideally prefers locations with strong, indirect lighting that simulates its natural growth under large trees. Direct sun exposure causes leaf drop and wilting. But dark places are equally unsuitable for the plant, as they cause long distances between leaves and destruction of the shoots.
Watering: During the growing season it should be done after the soil is slightly dry. By putting the finger in the soil of the plant, the soil should be dry until the finger is closed before watering again. It is also important not to let the soil dry out too much between waterings. In the winter, all soil should be thoroughly dry between waterings.
Temperature: It needs warm and humid conditions being the tropical plant that it is. Ideal temperatures 18C - 24C and never below 13C.
Humidity: Like all tropical plants, it loves high humidity. It's another way to simulate its growing conditions in nature.
They can survive in moderate humidity conditions, but as the levels increase, the healthier the plant becomes. And the larger the leaves will become. So as much as possible, increase the humidity!
The easiest way to increase humidity indoors is to place the plant's pot on a plate filled with gravel and water. As the water evaporates it creates the extra moisture the plant needs.
Fertilization: It is very essential for a healthy plant with large leaves. A balanced liquid fertilizer is the ideal choice. It should also contain calcium and magnesium, which are the most important microelements for Birkin. Fertilization is advisable once a week during the growing season and once a month in Winter.
Transplanting: When the roots of the plant have filled the pot. Usually every 1 or 2 years. A much larger pot should not be chosen than the previous one as this stresses the plant.
