📚 Flapjack: not just another Kalanchoe
🌸 ‘Flapjack’ is not simply another Kalanchoe luciae — it is a selected form with a strikingly flat rosette and vivid colour.
🎨 The leaf edges develop a stronger pink or red tone than common luciae or thyrsiflora forms.
🧬 It is a morphologically stable plant, with a symmetrical shape that makes it ideal for decorative use.
⚠️ Many nurseries use the name ‘Flapjack’ for common forms — but the difference is visible: the authentic look is a little work of art.

Natural species & geographic range: Kalanchoe luciae is an African species found mainly in South Africa, in rocky, sunny ecosystems.

Differences from related forms: It differs from thyrsiflora and typical luciae in the flatness of the rosette and in its colour response to sunlight.

Propagation & stability: It can be propagated by offsets or leaves, and keeps its stable form best in strong light and a poor, free-draining substrate.

Distribution & ornamental value: Sought after for shallow arrangements and bowl plantings thanks to its architectural look and pink-edged leaves.

1) Substrate: 70–90% mineral material such as pumice, perlite or gravel, with a small amount of organic matter for stability.
2) Watering: Only when completely dry. It is sensitive to excess moisture.
