Family: Cactaceae
Family Family Family Family Family: Cactaceae Family: Family: Family: Cactaceae Diameter:10.5cm., Height:15cm.
A unique variety as it simulates the appearance of a cactus with small thorns, when in fact one can touch it without being pricked.
It develops many shoots 6-12cm in height, and as it grows it can produce edible fruits. These fruits are called 'pitaya' or 'dragon fruit'.
It prefers bright locations and needs watering once a week. For indoor and outdoor use.
Its name derives from Greek and literally means "woody candle", to indicate the appearance and the columnar habit of its stems, up to 30 centimeters long and often tending to become climbing or creeping.
In nature, this climbing cactacea uses its aerial roots to grow on rocks and trees, up to ten meters in height. Its green stems are covered with numerous white areoles and small thin spines.
It has an initially erect shape, that tends to fall back with growth.
Flowering occurs from late spring to early summer, generating large white flowers with lime green basal petals, which bloom only at night. Its fruits, widely known as "dragon fruit" are edible, highly sought after for their nourishing properties, in fact they are rich in fiber and vitamins.
