Composition

A super-chunky composition for thick, epiphytic roots

The high bark and husk-chip ratio mimics an open epiphytic base, while coir and worm castings keep enough moisture between the chunks.

The base of the mix

1 part coco coir, 1 part worm castings, 2.5 parts perlite, 4 parts orchid bark and 1.5 parts coconut husk chips, with a small amount of activated carbon and added organic nutrients.

1 part coco coir: Holds controlled moisture within the chunky structure.
1 part worm castings: Adds bioactive organic matter and gradual nutrition.
2.5 parts perlite: Improves drainage and aeration between the chunks.
4 parts orchid bark: Creates the main, highly open structure for epiphytic roots.
1.5 parts coconut husk chips: Adds large air spaces and resistance to compaction.
Small amount activated carbon: Supports a cleaner root environment.
Added organic nutrients: Complete the mix's built-in nutrition.

Use & repotting

A ready mix for Anthurium and Bromelia

Use it straight from the package and choose a pot that drains freely. Do not crush or compress the large chunks around the roots.

01Remove loose old potting mix

Inspect the thick roots and carefully remove material that comes away easily.

02Add a chunky base

Place a few centimetres of Anthurium Mix in the bottom and position the plant at the correct height.

03Fill without compacting

Let the chunks fall around the roots and settle them by lightly tapping the pot.

04Water and drain

Wet evenly after repotting and allow all excess water to drain away.

Let the upper centimetres dry

Water again when the top 2–3 cm has dried. The chunky surface may look dry, so check slightly deeper before watering.
