Spherical elegance with spines 🌵
Gymnocalycium monvillei is a classic cactus species with a rounded body and striking radial spines. Easy to grow and renowned for its large white flowers appearing in spring and summer.
In a sunny position, ideally near a window or outdoors in summer. Avoid excess moisture and ensure a sharply draining substrate.
Gymnocalycium monvillei is native to Argentina, mainly the mountainous regions of Córdoba and San Luis. It grows on rocky slopes and dry grasslands at elevations above 1,000 m.
Described botanically in the 19th century, it has since become a collectors’ favourite thanks to its resilience, impressive flowering habit and ease of pot culture.
