Small, upright, tidy — like it “organises” the room 🍋
Family: Asparagaceae • Pot diameter: 12 cm • Height: ~15 cm
Dracaena fragrans 'Lemon Lime' is one of the easiest ways to add brightness and clean, modern lines to your interior—even if your space isn’t consistently sunny. Its foliage features fresh lemon-and-lime striping that looks crisp without being loud, while the upright, tidy shape makes it perfect for small spots: a shelf, next to a desk, an entryway, or on furniture where you want a “column” of green without taking up room. It keeps a stable, polished look, pairs beautifully with neutral palettes, and instantly makes a space feel more alive and curated. With a sensible watering rhythm and mostly indirect light, it stays sturdy, leafy and vibrant—bringing colour that stands out in a calm, balanced way.
Place it in bright indirect light—where it “sees” the sky but isn’t hit by direct sun on the leaves. It also adapts to medium light, but brighter conditions keep the striping cleaner and growth more balanced. Ideal near a window with a sheer curtain, or in a bright spot a few metres back from the glass.
Design goal: clean lines + bright variegation for a modern, “tidy” green statement.
Taxonomic notes: Dracaena fragrans belongs to the Asparagaceae family (Nolinoideae) and is widely known as the “corn plant” thanks to its cane-like stem (cane). The species has produced many cultivars that differ in variegation and stripe width.
Native habitat & range: The species is linked to tropical regions of Africa, growing in warm climates and in positions with filtered light under taller vegetation.
Name & etymology: Dracaena is etymologically connected to “dragon”, while fragrans refers to the fragrance of the flowers (although flowering indoors is uncommon). The name 'Lemon Lime' describes the signature lemon-and-lime variegated foliage.
Selection, distribution & stability: Variegated forms are typically maintained through selection of stable variegation lines and propagated vegetatively (cane cuttings) to keep the same pattern and colour intensity in production.
