What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Hoyacrassipetiolata‘Splash’

Starry flowers, superstar leaves ⭐

Family: Apocynaceae · Pot diameter: 10.5 cm · Height: 10–15 cm

  • Silver splashes
  • Elongated waxy blades
  • Clear central vein
  • Climbing elegance
  • Collectable species form

Hoya crassipetiolata ‘Splash’ scatters a different constellation of silver splashes across every elongated green blade. Clean form, a strong central vein and waxy shine create a refined contemporary look, while flexible stems can form an elegant climb or relaxed cascade. On a high shelf, in a wall display or against a dark wall, it becomes a refined collectable focal point with enough detail to reward close viewing.

Silver appears sometimes as fine dust and sometimes as larger bright marks, with no two leaves exactly alike. The linear form suits minimal styling, dark ceramics and natural wood, while star-shaped flower clusters may add a softer fragrant detail on mature growth.

What makes it special

An elongated blade, bright central line and shifting silver splashing create an elegant botanical design.

Form

Long elliptical blades appear in pairs on stems that readily climb or trail.

Colour

Mid to deep green is interrupted by irregular silver marks and a clear central vein.

Texture

The thick smooth surface creates waxy reflection and keeps the leaf firm and clean in form.

Why you’ll love it: it resembles a green sky filled with silver stars along a clean climbing line.

In your space Placement & plant pairings Where it looks its best and which plants complement it
In your space

Where it looks its best

Near a bright window with a slim support or moss pole so the nodes can climb and the leaves can mature. Leave breathing room around the crown so each leaf shape reads clearly.

Plant pairings

Plants that complement it

Choices with compatible light needs and contrasting textures keep the arrangement balanced.

  • Peperomia rotundifolia — clean green and a dense soft trail.
  • Monstera adansonii — fenestrated blades for a more graphic contrast.
  • Philodendron hederaceum ‘Brasil’ — a lime stripe across flowing green hearts.

Care at a glance

Light

Plentiful bright indirect light, with gentle morning sun after acclimation.

Water

Water after a substantial part of the mix has dried and allow all excess to escape.

Atmosphere

Average to higher humidity, good airflow and roughly 16–28°C, without abrupt changes.

Pets

Best kept away from pets as a precaution. Prevent access and chewing.

Detailed care Complete care guide Light, watering, humidity, substrate and nutrition in detail

Light for dense growth

Provide strong filtered light. Gradual exposure to gentle morning or late-afternoon sun can support flowering and colour without scorching.

A wet–dry cycle

Check the mix at depth and notice the pot's weight. Water thoroughly once it has dried sufficiently and never leave water standing at the base.

Air around the stems

Maintain average to higher humidity together with gentle airflow. Stagnant, very humid air increases the risk of spotting and damage.

Stable temperature

Most Hoya species perform well at roughly 16–28°C. Protect foliage from cold glass, chilly draughts and direct heat.

An airy Hoya mix

Use the specialised Hoya mix with a coarse, porous structure. Repot only after roots have genuinely filled the pot.

Gentle feeding

During active growth use Nutri One according to the label and only on already moist mix. Reduce or pause when growth slows.

Botanical identity Origin of the cultivar The species’ range and the history of the cultivated selection

Natural range

Hoya crassipetiolata is an accepted species native to Vietnam.

Habitat

It grows as a climbing epiphyte in wet tropical habitat, using other surfaces for support.

Botanical identity

‘Splash’ describes a cultivated form with increased silver markings and is not a separate botanical species.

From natural habitat to care: Life on aerated forest surfaces explains the need for porous roots, moving air and a moisture cycle without prolonged stagnation.

Greenleaf for Plant Nerds Scientific facts nobody asked for Botanical details for anyone curious about the plant behind the foliage

Silver is not a metallic pigment

Differences between cell layers alter the way light is reflected and create the bright splashing.

The thick cuticle limits evaporation

The waxy surface acts as a barrier reducing water loss from the elongated blade.

Flower spurs are perennial

A healthy spur can form another inflorescence in a later cycle, so it is removed only after drying completely.

Pollen travels in pollinia

As in many Apocynaceae, pollen grains are organised into compact masses carried as a unit by pollinators.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about growth and the plant’s most common signals.

01 Why does splashing vary so much between leaves?

Silver distribution naturally varies on every new blade. This difference is part of the ‘Splash’ character and needs no correction.

02 Why are the leaves wrinkling?

They often show that the plant has used some of its water reserves, but check the mix and roots first. Wrinkled leaves with wet mix may indicate root trouble.

03 Should old flower spurs be removed?

Not while they remain healthy. Many Hoya species flower again from the same permanent spur, so remove only parts that have dried completely.

04 Why is it not flowering?

Common reasons include insufficient light, immature growth, frequent moves or excessive nitrogen feeding. Stabilise conditions first.

05 When does it need repotting?

When roots fill the pot, the mix has lost its structure or water passes through excessively fast. Move up one size only.

06 Is it safe for pets?

For this particular plant, we recommend keeping it away from cats and dogs as a precaution. This does not classify the plant as toxic. It is not intended for consumption; prevent access and chewing.
