What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Alocasia tandurusa ‘Jacklyn’

The edges chose the route with the most turns

Family: Araceae · Pot diameter: 9 cm · Height: 15 cm

  • Araceae
  • Accepted species
  • Deeply lobed foliage
  • Bright indirect light
  • Young collector form

Alocasia tandurusa ‘Jacklyn’ forms long green blades with deep irregular lobes, dark venation and a lightly textured surface. The perimeter appears almost electrified while the veins keep all that movement organised.

A young 9 cm pot already shows the wild geometry that made it famous among collectors. Successive leaves can develop clearer lobes and stronger contrast between green tissue and the dark frame.

What makes it distinctive

‘Jacklyn’ does not rely on variegation: perimeter, relief and venation create all the intensity in green tissue.

A lightning-bolt perimeter

Deep cuts and long tips create a strong zigzag around the blade.

A dark vascular frame

Central and lateral veins stand out across green and visually organise the lobes.

Texture without velvet

Fine surface relief breaks reflections and adds depth to otherwise solid green.

Why you will love it: it carries the energy of a variegated plant without white tissue, and its scientific identity is as interesting as its appearance.

In your space

Where it looks its best

Display it on a bright shelf or in a plant cabinet against a clear background so the serrated outline reads in silhouette. Matt black, khaki, rust or pale grey planters repeat its earthy, almost prehistoric aesthetic.

Plant pairings

Plants that set it off

Combine it with calm continuous blades and different growth directions while sharing warmth and an airy substrate.

  • Alocasia scalprum — a narrow smooth blade with a clean outline provides immediate contrast.
  • Philodendron tortum — fine finger-like lobes repeat movement in a more airy form.
  • Homalomena wallisii — a low oval pattern stabilises the base of the composition.

Care at a glance

Light

Abundant bright indirect light. Gentle morning sun only after gradual acclimation.

Water

Water when the top 2–4 cm dries, maintaining rhythm without permanent moisture around the corm.

Atmosphere

Keep at 18–27°C with moderate to raised humidity and complete protection from cold and draughts.

Pets

Not pet-safe. Aroid tissues contain irritating insoluble calcium oxalate crystals.

Detailed careComplete care guideLight, watering, humidity, substrate and nutrition in detail

Light and orientation

Provide abundant bright indirect light near an east-facing or filtered south-facing window. Turn the pot slightly each week for balanced growth and acclimate gradually before any gentle direct sun.

Water without saturation

Water when the top 2–4 cm dries, wetting the whole root ball evenly. Drain fully; permanent saturation around roots and corm raises the risk of rot.

Humidity and airflow

Moderate to raised humidity helps a new leaf unfurl smoothly. Pair it with gentle airflow and clean foliage rather than keeping the blades continually wet.

Temperature and winter pace

Keep ideally at 18–27°C and never below 16°C for long. Growth may slow or leaves may be lost in lower light; reduce water accordingly without keeping the mix permanently wet.

Substrate and repotting

Use a chunky, airy aroid mix in a pot with immediate drainage. Move up by only one pot size and do not bury the corm deeper than its previous level.

Nutrition and repotting

Osmocote Exact Mini is a controlled-release feed designed for small pots. Apply it strictly at the label rate and do not combine it with frequent liquid feeding. If a new substrate is already enriched, wait until its initial nutrition has been used.

Botanical identityOrigin & taxonomic identityThe species, origin and cultivated selection

Its accepted identity is recent

Alocasia tandurusa is an accepted species in Araceae. Its scientific name was published only in 2023.

Origin in Sulawesi

Its native range is documented in Sulawesi, Indonesia, within the wet tropical biome.

‘Jacklyn’ and tandurusa

The name ‘Jacklyn’ became established in trade before the scientific identity was clarified. The accepted species behind that cultivated form is now A. tandurusa.

Greenleaf for Plant NerdsScientific details nobody asked forBotanical detail for anyone who likes to look beyond the surface

Formal description followed trade fame

The plant was already circulating in collections when the species was published in 2023, a clear case of horticultural trade preceding formal taxonomic naming.

Lobes increase perimeter

For a given area, a deeply divided leaf has much more edge than an entire blade, altering airflow, water shedding and mechanical behaviour.

Dark venation maps growth

Every lobe connects with vascular branches that supply tissue and reinforce narrow projections.

A new leaf does not open in final texture

It begins soft and paler, with lobes sometimes looking less defined. Dark colour, thickness and relief develop while hardening.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about behaviour, common signs and correct care for this plant.

01 Is it really Alocasia tandurusa or simply ‘Jacklyn’?

The current accepted botanical identity for the plant known in trade as ‘Jacklyn’ is Alocasia tandurusa. The scientific name was published in 2023.

02 When exactly should I water?

Check the top 2–4 cm and the pot's weight. Water once the surface has dried but the root ball is not bone dry, then drain fully without leaving water in the outer pot.

03 Can Osmocote be used in such a small pot?

Yes, Exact Mini is designed for small pots, but the dose must be measured strictly. Do not combine it with frequent liquid feed, and wait if the fresh mix is already enriched.

04 Why is one leaf yellowing and dropping?

An old leaf may be retired as a new one opens. Several yellow leaves, soft petioles or constantly wet mix mean watering, temperature, light and roots all need checking.

05 Does it go dormant in winter?

In lower light and temperature it can slow sharply or lose some foliage. Do not water as though it were growing in summer; keep the corm warm and match water to the actual growth rate.

06 Is it safe around cats, dogs and young children?

Not for chewing or ingestion. Insoluble calcium oxalate crystals can cause oral pain, drooling and difficulty swallowing. Keep it out of reach and contact a vet or doctor if exposure occurs.
