Its name as 'Giant Bird of Paradise' sums up the characteristics of this plant: huge grey-green leaves up to 2m long grow on a gradually extending ring-shaped trunk. Once the plant reaches a height of 2 metres or more it can begin to produce flowers, identical to those of Strelitzia reginae but larger and white in colour. It can live without any problems for many years even in the same pot, but it grows quickly and impressively if transplanted or planted in the ground.
