Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Futura Superba’ forms a full rosette of broad lance-shaped blades with dark-green centres, grey-green cross-strokes and a clear yellow margin. Its firm, open form lets each leaf stand out like a painted surface in a golden frame.

Successive leaves of Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Futura Superba’ open around a compact central axis, allowing the crown to show older and newer stages of colour and form at once.

The accepted species

The accepted name is Dracaena trifasciata in Asparagaceae. The older Sansevieria trifasciata remains a widely known synonym in cultivation.

The established ‘Futura Superba’

‘Futura Superba’ was already widely cultivated when a mutation named ‘Hansoti20’ was found in a planting of it in January 2014. The related patent application was filed in 2017 and granted in 2019. The document establishes that ‘Futura Superba’ was already in cultivation, not when it was created or first introduced.

Wild origin

Wild Dracaena trifasciata is native from southern Nigeria through west-central tropical Africa, with a separate occurrence in Tanzania, in seasonally dry tropical habitat.

The yellow margin is a tissue mosaic
