MINIATURE GROUND-COVER ROSE · ROSACEAE · PRICKLE-FREE

Rosa ‘ROP007’ Cutie Pie®

Tiny and dangerously charming💕

Family: Rosaceae · Pot diameter: 17 cm (2 L) · Current height: 15 cm

  • Pink-white single flowers
  • Prickle-free
  • Very low spreading habit
  • Repeat flowering

Rosa ‘ROP007’ Cutie Pie® spreads slender stems and small compound leaves close to the ground, forming a dense green cushion. In summer, single flowers open white at the centre with pink around the broad edges of their five petals. Visible yellow stamens give them a light, almost apple-blossom character. Prickle-free stems and the absence of hips complete the distinctive character of this genuinely miniature rose.

Use it beside a path, in a broad pot with adequate depth or among stones, where the horizontal movement of its stems remains visible rather than disappearing behind taller plants.

What makes it special

Three elements define this exact cultivar’s form and presence.

Open single flower

Five broad petals surround the yellow centre, with pink margins clearly outlining the open flower.

Prickle-free stems

The slender stems lack the sharp surface prickles found on most roses.

Low stem network

Stems branch close to the ground and form a broad flowering cushion.

Why you will love it: Open pink-and-white flowers cover a genuinely low cushion, bringing each small detail into close view.

Planting position

At the very front

Cutie Pie needs a genuinely low foreground: a rock-garden edge, raised bed or broad pot. Keep vigorous neighbours back so they do not cover the small flowering cushion.

Colour & compatibility

Compatible planting

Use low, well-spaced companions so the miniature rose is not covered. Place thyme on a drier edge with separate watering and Erigeron slightly behind, as it can spread vigorously.

  • Thymus serpyllum — its low aromatic texture continues the scale without smothering the small flowers
  • Erigeron karvinskianus — small daisy flowers bridge pink and white in a sunny position
  • Dianthus deltoides — fine green foliage and pink flowers keep the front edge crisp

Care at a glance

Light

Full sun, ideally at least six hours, with air moving around the foliage.

Watering

Check the soil and water thoroughly when the surface begins to dry. The soil around the roots should neither dry out completely nor remain waterlogged.

Climate & hardiness

A hardy deciduous plant; protect the pot from prolonged hard frost and drying wind.

Safety

An ornamental rose, not a plant for consumption. Although its stems are prickle-free, leaves and flowers should not be chewed.

Detailed careComplete care guideLight, watering, soil, feeding, pruning and problem prevention.

Position & light

Full sun, ideally at least six hours, with air moving around the foliage.

Watering & drainage

Check the soil and water thoroughly when the surface begins to dry. The soil around the roots should neither dry out completely nor remain waterlogged.

Soil & repotting

Deep fertile but free-draining soil with organic matter and no standing water around roots.

Feeding

Balanced feed at growth onset and a second light application after the first flush, always on moist soil.

Pruning & habit

Regular pruning is not needed to maintain its low habit. Remove only dead or damaged shoots and retain its natural spread.

Problem prevention

Water at the root, clear fallen leaves and inspect young shoots for aphids or fungal spotting.

Development over timeGrowth and seasonal habitLow spreading cushion

First season

After planting, new roots establish around the small woody base. Slender shoots begin to spread sideways rather than forming a tall central stem.

Establishment

Branching close to the ground adds small compound leaves and gradually fills the cushion. During summer, single flowers appear just above this low surface.

Mature scale

With long-term growth it reaches about 15 cm in height and 20–30 cm in width, forming a very low spreading cushion.

Mature scale: 15 cm high and 20–30 cm wide. Eventual growth depends on soil, microclimate and available space.

History & origin Cultivar origin Tomoki Yokota’s miniature rose

‘ROP007’ was bred in Japan by Tomoki Yokota and introduced under the trade name Cutie Pie®. It combines exceptionally low growth, prickle-free stems and small single pink-and-white flowers.

Its market launch is recorded in 2021. That year, Hoogenraad of the Netherlands entered it in the Polish Nurserymen Association’s plant novelties competition. It is marketed through Plantipp and protected in Europe under EU 61829.

Prickles rather than true thorns

The sharp projections on most roses are superficial outgrowths of the stem, not modified branches. Cutie Pie is distinctive because it does not develop these prickles.
