Your legal guarantee rights

What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

COMPACT PERSICA-HYBRID ROSE · ROSACEAE · LILAC WITH A PURPLE EYE

Rosa ‘Intereybabert’ Trendy Babylon Eyes®

Lilac, purple and not remotely discreet—as it should be 👁️

Family: Rosaceae · Pot diameter: 3 L (19 cm) · Current height: 40 cm

Lilac-pink flowers
Purple basal eye
Early repeat flowering
Compact container habit

Rosa ‘Intereybabert’ Trendy Babylon Eyes® is the most graphic version of a small rose: open lilac-pink petals, a clear purple eye at the base and golden stamens precisely at the centre. The flowers open almost flat, displaying the complete pattern even from a distance. Its low vigorous crown repeats the display for months, bringing intense colour to a small garden or pot without demanding a large volume.

Place it in front of silver or blue foliage and view it from slightly above, allowing the flat flowers and purple eyes to work as a repeated pattern.

Silver Medal, Royal Concours International de Roses Nouvelles, Le Roeulx 2017, miniature category.

What makes it distinctive

Three elements define this exact cultivar’s form and presence.

Purple eye with a clear boundary

Anthocyanin concentrates at the petal base and stops before the lilac outer tissue.

Flat single corolla

Five open petals expose the centre and make the bicolour pattern fully visible.

Low repeated flowering

Fresh lateral shoots form successive buds above a compact crown.

Why you will love it: because lilac and violet tones gather around a clearly defined purple eye and remain easy to read on a very compact shrub.

Planting position

Ideal position

Provide full sun, 50–60 cm of final width and air around the foliage, in a free-draining pot or low border.

Colour & compatibility

Compatible combinations

Keep the flower colour clear with blue, silver or yellow accents from plants sharing full sun, airflow and free-draining soil.

Nepeta × faassenii ‘Walker’s Low’ — a cool blue haze continues the lilac palette at a lower level
Artemisia ‘Powis Castle’ — dissected silver foliage makes the purple eye appear deeper
Allium sphaerocephalon — small burgundy globes add vertical points without covering the low crown

Care at a glance

Light

Full sun, ideally at least six hours, with air moving around the foliage.

Watering

Water deeply when the upper 3–4 cm have dried; avoid small daily amounts.

Climate & resilience

A hardy deciduous plant; protect the pot from prolonged hard frost and drying wind.

Safety

Not intended for eating. Wear gloves around prickly canes and keep treated plant parts away from children and animals.

Position & light

Full sun, ideally at least six hours, with air moving around the foliage.

Watering & drainage

Water deeply when the upper 3–4 cm have dried; avoid small daily amounts.

Soil & repotting

Deep fertile but free-draining soil with organic matter and no standing water around roots.

Feeding

Balanced feed at growth onset and a second light application after the first flush, always on moist soil.

Pruning & habit

Prune in late winter according to the natural habit, removing dead, weak or crossing canes. Keep the centre open with selective late-winter pruning, removing only weak or crossing shoots.

Problem prevention

Water at the root, clear fallen leaves and inspect young shoots for aphids or fungal spotting.

Development through timeFrom establishment to mature habitFrom first establishment to the exact plant’s natural mature habit.

First season

From its first spring it produces short basal stems and small flower clusters, quickly establishing its low habit.

Establishment

Fresh lateral tips take over after the first flush and keep the purple eyes visible above the foliage.

Mature scale

At 40–60 cm high and wide, the mature crown remains compact, with enough open corollas for the lilac colour to read as one coherent patch.

Mature habit & dimensions

Height 40–60 cmWidth 40–60 cmlow compact rounded deciduous shrub

The deciduous shrub settles at 40–60 cm high and 40–60 cm wide without losing its natural branching.

May–autumnLilac-pink flowers with purple eyes open repeatedly over the low leafy crown.

WinterLeaves fall, leaving a small many-branched framework that renews from low down.

Both drawings show the same natural architecture as foliage, flowers and active growth change.

What to expect after planting: Do not level every short stem to the same height; small differences in length keep the plant dense and display the open flowers more effectively.

History & originCultivar originThe documented history of the exact cultivar and the limits of what is known.

‘Intereybabert’ was bred by Interplant Roses in the Netherlands and introduced commercially in 2014 as Trendy Babylon Eyes®, within the breeder’s collection of Rosa persica hybrids.

In 2017 Interplant presented it with Fancy as a new addition to the Babylon Eyes collection, distinguishing it by violet-pink flowers and a purple basal blotch. Its exact parental cross has not been published.

That same year it received a Silver Medal in the miniature category at the Royal Concours International de Roses Nouvelles in Le Roeulx, Belgium.

Greenleaf for Plant NerdsScience nobody asked forBotanical detail for anyone who wants to know what lies behind the plant’s appearance

The eye forms before the flower opens

Spatial activation of anthocyanin biosynthesis is set within the developing petal, so the basal blotch returns in the same position.

Shade changes with age and environment

Temperature, light intensity and petal ageing can shift the visible tone from pink towards lilac without changing the cultivar.

Frequently asked questions

Six practical answers covering position, water, seasonality, pruning, mature scale and safety.

01How much light does it need?

Full sun, ideally at least six hours, with air moving around the foliage.

02When should it be watered?

Water deeply when the upper 3–4 cm have dried; avoid small daily amounts.

03Can it stay permanently in a pot?

It suits a sunny 35–40 cm pot with deep compost and good airflow, where its naturally compact crown needs little restraint.

04When and how should it be pruned?

Prune in late winter according to the natural habit, removing dead, weak or crossing canes.

05How large does it become?

At maturity it reaches about 40–60 cm high and 40–60 cm wide, with a natural low compact rounded deciduous shrub.

06Is it safe to eat or for pets?

Not intended for eating. Wear gloves around prickly canes and keep treated plant parts away from children and animals.
