The 3, 6, 12, and 18 L options indicate the net volume of material. Actual coverage depends on the internal volume of the planter and the size of the root ball.

It does not just fill the planter — it organizes the rhizosphere

Pumice, lava, and zeolite granules form a stable, porous network. Water drains quickly from the large gaps, part of the moisture and nutrients are stored in the pores, and roots maintain access to oxygen. This way, the mixture does not compact and does not turn muddy like a heavy organic substrate.

More air around the roots

The open mineral structure maintains oxygen pathways even after long-term use and helps the root to grow without constrictive compression.

Stable volume, without "settling"

Mineral grains do not decompose like organic matter, they do not form clumps, and they do not require frequent replenishment due to settling.

Water and nutrients with better control

The mixture stores part of the moisture and nutrients and makes them available at the root, while excess water can be removed quickly.

Three ways to use it

The same material can handle the entire planting or only the functional zone of a LECHUZA system. The difference also changes the way of watering.

01 · Full planting

100% LECHUZA-PON

Fill the entire plant liner with PON and use it as a complete replacement for soil. This is the cleanest option for a uniform mineral root ball.

02 · LECHUZA System

Functional layer at the base

In pots with a separation base, the PON first covers the base and creates the zone that connects the substrate with the reservoir. On top, PON or another suitable substrate can be used.

03 · Common planter

Complete planting without a water reservoir

It can also be used in a regular planter with proper drainage. In this case, always water from above: PON alone does not create a self-watering system.

Repotting in four steps

There is no need to wash the roots aggressively. The goal is stable placement and gentle adaptation to the new root environment.

01 · Calculate the volume

Measure the plant liner and mentally subtract the volume occupied by the root ball in order to choose the correct packaging.

02 · Create the base

In a LECHUZA planter, cover the separating base with PON. For complete mineral planting, also add a thin layer so the plant comes to the correct height.

03 · Place the plant

Remove only the very loose soil without damaging the roots. The root ball does not need to be completely cleaned before filling PON around it.

04 · Water from above

In a LECHUZA system, you water the substrate from above for the first 12 weeks and keep the reservoir as empty as possible. After rooting, you use the filling shaft.

The new official nutrition

PERFECT LEAF for 6–8 months

Today's LECHUZA-PON is enriched with the slow-release fertilizer PERFECT LEAF. Regular additional fertilization is not needed at the beginning. After about six months, resume feeding, following the dosage of the fertilizer that you will use.

Clean, not "immune"

Less hospitable to gnats and mold

Because it does not contain peat or organic soil, it does not provide the usual moist organic environment where fungus gnats and mold develop. This significantly reduces favorable conditions, but does not cure infestations that are already present on the plant or in organic debris.

What changes compared to regular soil

PON is not "soil with more drainage." It is a different cultivation system and requires a different logic in watering and fertilizing.

Which packaging do you need?

There is no reliable conversion of “planter diameter = liters of PON,” because the height, shape, and root ball change. Choose based on the actual internal volume.

For a medium repotting or several smaller applications.

For a larger plant liner or several repottings of small and medium plants.

Practical calculation: Required liters of PON ≈ internal volume of the plant liner − volume of the root ball. For use only as an irrigation layer, a significantly smaller amount is required.

When is a specialized composition best suited?

LECHUZA-PON is the universal choice for indoor plants. For more specific needs, there are compositions with different structure or nutrition.

Reuse

The mineral structure does not 'expire' with planting

PON is reusable. Carefully remove roots and organic residues, rinse thoroughly, and let it dry before reuse. Material from a sick plant should not be reused without proper disinfection, and the initial fertilization is not automatically renewed.

Official use is not limited to decorative plants

LECHUZA declares PON suitable also for edible plants. Nutrition, watering, and planter size still need to be adjusted to the specific species and its growth stage.

PON alone does not turn a common planter into a self-watering one

Autonomy arises from the cooperation of the substrate with the reservoir, the separation base, the filling shaft, and the water-level indicator of a LECHUZA system. In a regular planter without such a system, you water from above and check the moisture as required by the plant. High drainage reduces the risk of overwatering, but it does not correct a permanently full, uncontrolled reservoir.

Frequently asked questions

What is LECHUZA-PON and what does it contain?

It is a purely mineral substrate for indoor plants, made of washed pumice, lava, and zeolite, with PERFECT LEAF slow-release fertilizer. It is 100% peat-free, volume-stable, and pre-fertilized for 6–8 months.

Can it completely replace soil?

Yes. You can fill the entire plant liner with LECHUZA-PON. In a LECHUZA planter, it can also be used solely as a functional layer on top of the separation base and supplemented with another suitable substrate.

Do I need to remove all the old soil from the roots?

No. Gently remove only the very loose soil without damaging the roots. The official guideline states that the root ball does not need to be completely cleaned before the plant is placed and the new substrate is added.

How do I water after repotting?

In a LECHUZA planter with a system, you water from the top, directly onto the substrate, for the first 12 weeks and leave as little water as possible in the reservoir. After the rooting phase, use the filling shaft. In a regular planter without the LECHUZA system, you continue to water from the top at all times.

Does it contain fertilizer, and when should I fertilize again?

Yes. The current composition contains PERFECT LEAF slow-release fertilizer and feeds the plant for 6–8 months. After about six months, you can start new fertilization, following the dosage of the product you will use and avoiding over-fertilization.

Does it eliminate fungus gnats and mold?

The purely mineral composition does not provide the moist organic material where fungus gnats and mold usually develop, thus significantly reducing favorable conditions. However, it is not a treatment for insects, fungi, or infected roots that are already present in the plant.

Which packaging should I choose?

The options are 3, 6, 12, and 18 L. For full planting, calculate the internal volume of the plant liner minus the volume of the root ball. For use only as a watering layer, a smaller amount is needed. The planter diameter alone is not enough for an accurate calculation.
