Cacti & succulents · Fine-grain mineral substrate

CACTUSPON 6 L

Clean, mineral, and perfectly suited to the minimalist aesthetic of cacti. The LECHUZA CACTUSPON forms a fine-grained yet open gray–charcoal base, highlights the plant, supports even tall forms, and creates a stable root environment with abundant air and quick water removal.

Purely mineral 100% peat-free For all cacti & succulents Without initial fertilizer Volume stable Reusable

High drainage Fine-grained porous structure

The 6 L package indicates the volume of the material, not the coverage area. The required amount depends on the internal volume of the plant liner and the root ball.

Drainage · aeration · stability

Water passes quickly; air remains available to the roots

The fine-grained composition of pumice, lava, zeolite, and activated carbon creates many stable gaps between the grains. Water drains away without forming a heavy, muddy mass, while the root remains in a porous environment that does not compress over time.

Enhanced drainage for species that cannot tolerate prolonged water accumulation.
Optimal root aeration thanks to the stable, porous mineral structure.
Stores part of the moisture and nutrients in the mineral pores, without organic soil.
Stable volume that provides support even for tall or heavier cacti.

Quick water removal

The special fine-grained composition has increased drainage capacity and limits the formation of permanently saturated zones around the roots.

Stable root aeration

The grains do not compress and do not become muddy, so the structure remains permeable to air even after long-term use.

Stable support without settling

The stable volume keeps the plant upright and provides a secure base for tall cacti, without the settling common in organic substrates.

Three ways to use it

CACTUSPON can be used throughout the entire planter. What changes is whether the planter has a LECHUZA system or simple drainage holes.

01 · Full planting

100% CACTUSPON

Fill the entire plant liner with CACTUSPON and use it as a complete replacement for regular soil for cacti and succulents.

02 · LECHUZA System

With the functional PON base

On the separation base, first place the LECHUZA-PON that comes with the planter. Then add CACTUSPON at planting height and around the root ball.

03 · Common planter

Always water from above

Use a planter with unobstructed drainage holes. The water must completely drain, and the next watering should follow the needs of the species and the season.

Repotting in four steps

The goal is to stabilize the root ball without unnecessary injuries and to keep the drainage pathways open.

01 · Prepare the plant liner

In a common planter, make sure the holes are free. In LECHUZA, first place the PON supplied with the system on the separation base.

02 · Adjust the height

Add a thin layer of CACTUSPON, enough so that the base of the plant reaches the correct height without burying its neck.

03 · Place the plant

Remove only the very loose old substrate. The official instruction does not require a complete cleaning of the root ball before filling around it.

04 · Water properly

In a LECHUZA system, water only from the top for the first 12 weeks. In a regular planter, always water from the top, allowing the water to drain completely.

Nutrition on demand

No pre-added fertilizer

CACTUSPON is not pre-fertilized. This way, nutrition can be adjusted to the specific species, season, and development stage, without automatically adding an initial dose. Use suitable fertilizer for cacti and succulents following the product's dosage instructions.

Cleaner root environment

Less hospitable to mold and soil gnats

The purely mineral substrate does not provide the usual moist organic soil where mold and gnats thrive. This reduces the favorable conditions, but does not treat infestations that already exist on the plant, in the roots, or in organic debris.

CACTUSPON or LECHUZA-PON?

Both are mineral and volume-stable, but they are not the same product. The essential difference lies in the type of plant, the fine-grained structure, and the initial fertilization.

Main use	CACTUSPON: Especially for all cacti and succulents.	LECHUZA-PON: Universal option for indoor plants.
Composition	CACTUSPON: lightweight pumice, lava, fine-grained zeolite, and plant charcoal.	LECHUZA-PON: Washed pumice, lava, zeolite, and slow-release fertilizer.
Granulation	CACTUSPON: particularly fine-grained for increased drainage action.	LECHUZA-PON: general-purpose mineral structure for air and water balance.
Initial fertilization	CACTUSPON: without added fertilizer, for nutrition according to needs.	LECHUZA-PON: Pre-fertilized with PERFECT LEAF for 6–8 months.

How much do you need?

There is no exact match based solely on the diameter of the planter. The height, shape, and volume of the root ball change the amount required.

3 L Smaller pack

For a small repotting, a top-up, or several very small planters, depending on the actual internal volume.

See the CACTUSPON 3 L

6 L This pack

For a larger plant liner or several small repottings, without changing the composition or usage method.

Practical calculation: Required liters of CACTUSPON ≈ internal volume of the plant liner − volume of the root ball. If the LECHUZA system already includes PON for the base, also subtract that volume.

When the plant needs a different substrate

CACTUSPON is the specialized choice for cacti and succulents. For other groups of plants, LECHUZA offers compositions with different structure and nutrition.

LECHUZA-PON

Purely mineral universal substrate for indoor plants, pre-fertilized with PERFECT LEAF for 6–8 months.

ORCHIDPON

Special organic–mineral composition for the roots and flowering of orchids, with humic substances.

Reuse

The stable structure can be reused

Carefully remove roots and organic residues, rinse the material well, and let it dry before reuse. Substrate from a sick plant should not be reused without proper disinfection.

Natural appearance

Small differences per batch are to be expected

The composition is based on natural raw materials. Slight deviations in shade, shape, and grain distribution do not change the purpose or function of the product.

High drainage does not make overwatering impossible

In a regular planter, free drainage holes are needed, and watering only when required by the species, the season, and the drying of the substrate. In a LECHUZA system, after the rooting phase, wait until the indicator reaches MIN: the official guideline recommends a dry phase of at least two weeks for cacti and, depending on the conditions, even longer.

Frequently asked questions

What is CACTUSPON and what does it contain?

It is a purely mineral, fine-grained substrate specifically for all cacti and succulents. It contains pumice, lava, fine-grained zeolite, and plant charcoal. It is 100% peat-free and volume-stable.

Does it contain fertilizer?

No. CACTUSPON is not pre-fertilized, so nutrition should be adjusted according to the type, season, and growth stage. Use appropriate fertilizer for cacti and succulents according to the product dosage.

Can it completely replace soil?

Yes. You can use 100% CACTUSPON throughout the entire plant liner. In a LECHUZA planter, first place the LECHUZA-PON that accompanies the system on top of the separation base and then add the CACTUSPON.

Do I need to remove all the old soil from the roots?

No. Gently remove only the very loose substrate without damaging the roots. The official guideline states that the root ball does not need to be completely cleaned before the plant is placed and the new substrate is added.

How do I water in a common planter?

Always water from above and let the water drain completely through the holes. The next watering is done when the substrate has dried to the degree required by the specific species, taking into account the season, temperature, and location.

How do I water in a planter with a LECHUZA system?

For the first 12 weeks, water only from the top and keep as little water as possible in the water reservoir. After rooting, use the filling shaft. When the indicator reaches MIN, maintain a dry phase of at least two weeks for cacti and longer when required by the species and conditions.

What is the difference from LECHUZA-PON?

CACTUSPON is specially designed for cacti and succulents; it is particularly fine-grained for increased drainage, contains plant charcoal, and does not have initial fertilizer. LECHUZA-PON is a universal substrate for indoor plants and is pre-fertilized for 6–8 months.
