Indoor plants · Dark mineral design substrate

BLACKSTONEPON 6 L

A substrate that makes functionality part of the aesthetic. LECHUZA BLACKSTONEPON combines black lava and plant charcoal in an extremely dark, clean composition that highlights the foliage and pots while keeping the root ball stable, porous, and properly aerated.

Purely mineral 100% peat-free For all indoor plants Pre-fertilized for 6–8 months Black lava & plant charcoal Full planting or decorative layer Made in Germany

6 L Net packaging volume

6 elements Minerals, charcoal & fertilizer

6–8 months Initial nutrition

2 uses Planting or top layer

The 6 L indicates the net volume of material, not a specific number of pots or coverage area. The required amount depends on the plant liner, the root ball, and the method of use.

Dark design · air · water · nutrients

The black result is not just decorative

Pumice, lava, black lava, and zeolite form a stable pore network that allows excess water to be removed and air to reach the roots. Plant charcoal completes the composition, while the special slow-release fertilizer provides gradual initial nutrition.

Stable volume that does not compact or become waterlogged like heavy conventional soil.
High drainage and water storage capacity for more controlled root feeding.
Open gaps between the grains for optimal aeration of the root system.
Extremely dark appearance that works both in full planting and as a decorative top layer.

Dark design that highlights

The black lava and plant charcoal create a deep, uniform dark base that makes the green foliage and the line of the planter stand out.

Stable, porous structure

The mineral grains retain air gaps, support drainage, and remain stable in volume without being compressed over time.

Ready with initial nutrition

The special slow-release fertilizer for indoor plants gradually feeds the plant for the first 6–8 months.

Three ways to use it

BLACKSTONEPON can be used throughout the entire planter or be used only on the surface. The watering method always depends on the plant liner and the irrigation system.

01 · Common planter

100% BLACKSTONEPON

Fill the entire plant liner with BLACKSTONEPON. The planter needs free drainage holes and is always watered from above, according to the plant's needs.

02 · LECHUZA System

Above the PON functional base

On the separating base, LECHUZA-PON that comes with the planter is placed first so that water is transferred from the reservoir. BLACKSTONEPON is then added around the root ball.

03 · Decorative use

Dark top layer

It spreads over an existing suitable substrate for a clean, black appearance. It does not by itself change the watering needs of the plant or the function of the planter.

Repotting in four steps

The official LECHUZA procedure keeps the root ball as intact as possible and gives the plant time to grow roots inside the new mineral structure.

01 · Prepare the base

In a LECHUZA planter, place the PON included in the package on the separating base and add a thin layer of BLACKSTONEPON. In a regular planter, make sure the holes are free.

02 · Place the plant

Adjust the height and place the root ball in the center. There is no need to completely remove the old soil from the roots.

03 · Fill around the root ball

Fill the gaps with BLACKSTONEPON and gently tap the plant liner to distribute the material. Do not press the mixture too hard.

04 · Give time to the roots

In a LECHUZA system you water from above for the first 12 weeks and keep the reservoir as empty as possible. After the adjustment phase, you use the filling shaft.

Special initial nutrition

Pre-fertilized for 6–8 months

BLACKSTONEPON contains slow-release fertilizer specifically for indoor plants. No additional fertilizer is needed initially; after the active period, continue with a suitable fertilizer, following its dosage and the needs of the plant.

Plant charcoal

Part of the function, not just the color

LECHUZA states that the activated charcoal stimulates root growth and contributes to the fertility of the substrate. We do not attribute additional properties to the material, such as odor or "toxin" neutralization, which are not documented in the official description.

BLACKSTONEPON or LECHUZA-PON?

Both are purely mineral, without peat and suitable for indoor plants. BLACKSTONEPON stands out mainly for its dark composition with black lava and plant charcoal.

Main use	BLACKSTONEPON: complete planting or decorative layer for indoor plants.	LECHUZA-PON: Universal mineral substrate and functional base in LECHUZA systems.
Composition	BLACKSTONEPON: Pumice, lava, black lava, zeolite, vegetal charcoal, and special fertilizer.	LECHUZA-PON: washed pumice, lava, zeolite, and PERFECT LEAF fertilizer.
Appearance	BLACKSTONEPON: Extremely dark, black design that also functions as a visible top layer.	LECHUZA-PON: Natural, lighter mineral appearance with distinct shades of the grains.
Initial fertilization	BLACKSTONEPON: Slow-release fertilizer specifically for indoor plants, for 6–8 months.	LECHUZA-PON: PERFECT LEAF for 6–8 months.

How much do you need?

The package contains 6 L of material. There is no safe match based solely on the planter's diameter, because the height, shape, and root ball change the available volume.

6 L This packaging

Net substrate volume for one or more uses, depending on the actual plant liner and root ball.

100% For full planting

Calculate the internal volume of the planter and subtract the volume of the root ball and the PON base, when present.

Top layer For decorative layer

Consumption depends on the surface area and the desired thickness. There is no single coverage figure for all planters.

Practical calculation for full planting: Required liters of BLACKSTONEPON ≈ internal volume of plant liner − root ball volume − volume of the functional PON base, if using a LECHUZA system.

When is another blend more suitable?

BLACKSTONEPON is a universal choice for indoor plants with an emphasis on dark aesthetics. For specialized cultivation needs, different LECHUZA compositions are available.

LECHUZA-PON

The classic purely mineral universal composition, without black lava or plant charcoal and with PERFECT LEAF nutrition for 6–8 months.

Reuse

The stable structure can be reused

Carefully remove the old roots, rinse the material, and let it dry before reuse. Because the initial fertilization is depleted, the next crop requires a new nutrition schedule. Material from a diseased plant should not be reused.

Natural raw materials

The deep shade remains natural, not completely standardized

Black lava and the other natural raw materials may show slight deviations in color, shape, and grain distribution. This does not change the purpose or function of the product.

The dark color is not an indication of moisture — nor a self-watering system

Do not decide on watering based on the appearance of BLACKSTONEPON, because it naturally remains very dark. In a LECHUZA planter, follow the water-level indicator and the correct adaptation phase; in a regular planter, water from above according to the plant’s needs. The autonomy comes from the complete LECHUZA system, not from the substrate alone.

Frequently asked questions

What is BLACKSTONEPON and what does it contain?

It is a purely mineral substrate for indoor plants with an extremely dark design. It contains pumice, lava, black lava, zeolite, plant charcoal, and slow-release fertilizer specific for indoor plants. It is 100% peat-free.

For which plants is it suitable?

LECHUZA declares it suitable for all indoor plants. For cacti, succulents, or orchids, you can choose the more specialized CACTUSPON or ORCHIDPON compositions when you want a substrate specifically designed for their needs.

Does it contain fertilizer, and when should I fertilize again?

Yes. It is pre-fertilized with slow-release fertilizer specifically for indoor plants and provides nutrition for 6–8 months. No additional fertilizer is needed initially; after the active period, you continue with appropriate fertilizer according to the dosage.

Can it completely replace soil?

Yes. BLACKSTONEPON is suitable for full planting throughout the entire plant liner. It can also be used only as a decorative top layer over another suitable substrate.

Do I need to remove all the old soil from the roots?

No. The official guidance states that the roots do not need to be completely cleaned of the old soil. Gently remove only the very loose material without damaging the root ball.

How do I water after repotting?

In a LECHUZA system planter, water from above, directly onto the substrate, for the first 12 weeks and keep the reservoir as empty as possible. After the adjustment phase, use the filling shaft. In a regular planter, always continue to water from above.

What is the difference from LECHUZA-PON?

Both are purely mineral, without peat, suitable for indoor plants and pre-fertilized for 6–8 months. BLACKSTONEPON additionally contains black lava and plant charcoal and has an extremely dark appearance, while LECHUZA-PON has the classic lighter mineral look and PERFECT LEAF fertilizer.
