It flowers so generously, you may suspect it is showing off on purpose 😉
Family: Lythraceae · Pot diameter: 15cm · Height: 20–25cm
Lagerstroemia indica With Love® Virgin (‘Milabla’ PBR) turns summer into a luminous scene, with pure-white flower clusters appearing to float above dark foliage. Its compact, full outline feels elegant without becoming heavy. This is the white flowering accent that calms stronger colours, brightens the shadows within a planting and immediately gives the whole composition a polished finish, with a crinkled texture reminiscent of fine crepe.
Flower clusters develop on current-season growth in warm summer weather and may renew while high temperatures continue. The petals retain their clean white tone, while dense branching provides a handsome dark-green framework between flowering waves.
Pure white flowers, dense branching and an elegant scale come together in a small but exceptionally luminous crape myrtle.
Crinkled petals open pure white and change very little as the flowers mature.
Numerous upright shoots build a dense shrub with a balanced outline.
White terminal thyrses stand above the dark foliage, creating a crisp contrast.
Why you will love it: it creates the impression of a lavish white-flowering shrub in a scale that remains calm, elegant and versatile.
Place in full sun near an entrance, seating area or the front of a border, where the white clusters remain clearly visible. Allow about 50–60cm from neighbouring compact plants.
White flowers bridge cool blue and purple blooms with the soft curves of a low ornamental grass.
Full sun in a warm, sheltered position for the richest white flower display.
Maintain even moisture during establishment and summer heat, allowing surplus water to drain completely.
Deciduous; established plants have been recorded as tolerating temperatures down to −15°C, while roots in pots benefit from protection during severe frost.
The species is not considered toxic to dogs or cats, but it is not intended for consumption.

Fertile, organic, deep and very well-drained soil or growing mix, without prolonged wetness around the roots.
Apply a light balanced feed in early spring; excessive nitrogen produces foliage at the expense of flowering tips.

Remove dead, weak or crossing wood in late winter and shape lightly before current-season growth begins.

Sparse flowering often points to insufficient sun or summer warmth, while excessively soft green growth usually indicates surplus nitrogen.
During the first season it develops fine roots and short structural shoots.
New lateral branches fill the centre and increase the number of flowering tips.
The mature summer plant carries terminal white thyrses on current-season growth.
Mature Lagerstroemia indica With Love® Virgin (‘Milabla’ PBR) retains numerous upright stems beneath a rounded white flowering canopy. Its small scale and free branching give a full outline in a sunny foreground.
The two drawings connect spring leaf emergence on the freely branching framework with the mature summer display.
What to expect after planting: After root establishment, lateral branching increases the tips that flower on current-season growth. Each warm season can make the white cloud denser without turning the plant into a large tree.
The story of Lagerstroemia indica ‘Milabla’, now marketed as With Love® Virgin, began in 1998 in Piero Frangi’s breeding programme at Vertemate con Minoprio, Italy. Seed from the open pollination of 33 unnamed proprietary selections was pooled and sown as breeding line 3.32. In 1999, one unique white-flowered seedling was selected; because pollination was open and the seed pooled, its exact parents remain unknown.
The selection combined an upright, well-branched habit with early, extended flowering, pure-white flowers, good tolerance of powdery mildew and observed frost resistance. That same year, Frangi began propagating it by stem cuttings at Vertemate con Minoprio, and successive generations remained true to type.
‘Milabla’ was submitted for EU plant variety protection on 28 May 2014 and for a US plant patent on 19 November 2014. Assignment of Frangi’s interest to Fondazione Minoprio was recorded on 9 December 2014, while the selection joined the With Love® series as Virgin.
US Plant Patent PP26,876, naming Piero Frangi as inventor and Fondazione Minoprio as assignee, was granted on 28 June 2016. EU plant variety right 47221 followed on 3 July 2017.
The branched inflorescences form at the tips of current-season lateral shoots.
Each flower usually carries six white, kidney-shaped petals with strongly undulate margins and a moderately sweet scent.
Quadrangular young stems develop free lateral branching and elliptic leaves arranged oppositely or nearly so.

Full sun in a warm, sheltered setting produces the richest white flower display.
Maintain even moisture during establishment and hot weather, with complete drainage between waterings.
Fertile, organic, deep and very well-drained soil or growing mix.
About 60cm in height and 40cm in spread, with natural variation between sites.
During warm summer weather, with further flushes possible while high temperatures continue.
Yes. The selection is distinguished by a clean white petal colour that changes very little as blooms mature.
