Pot diameter: 13 cm • Height: ~20 cm
A compact dwarf cultivar with low, dense growth 🌿
A dwarf, creeping juniper with an exceptionally dense crown and a low, cushion-like habit. Perfect for rock gardens, borders, groundcover use — and yes, for bonsai.
In a sunny position with good air circulation. Use a mix with excellent drainage; water deeply but not often. Once established, it handles both cold and heat very well.
Wild species & native range: Juniperus procumbens is a Japanese juniper, native to rocky, coastal slopes.
How the cultivar arose: ‘Nana’ is a selected dwarf form chosen for its exceptionally low, dense, creeping growth.
How it differs from related forms: Shorter internodes, denser canopy and superior performance as a groundcover/bonsai plant compared to typical forms.
Propagation & stability: Semi-hardwood cuttings; traits remain stable in full sun and lean, free-draining soils.
Use & ornamental value: Widely used in bonsai and landscape design for a “green carpet” effect and a clean Japanese aesthetic.
