Family: Cupressaceae • Pot diameter: 13 cm • Height: ~25 cm
Dense, arching shrub with a lively minty blue-green hue and fast volume fill. Best in full sun, sharply drained soils and low-maintenance schemes.
Give full sun and excellent drainage (sandy/rocky). Water deeply but infrequently until established; afterwards it tolerates longer dry spells. Avoid heavy, wet soils. Prune for shape only into green growth — it does not reshoot reliably from old wood.
Taxonomic history: Hybrid Juniperus sabina × J. chinensis — the × pfitzeriana group features broad, arching shrubs.
Parent habitats: J. chinensis (E. Asia) & J. sabina (Eurasia) — adapted to lean, stony substrates with rapid drainage.
Name: ‘Mint Julep’ nods to the fresh, mint-like hue and flexible, arching habit.
Cultivar character: Dense, arching shrub with lively blue-green foliage; responds well to light shaping.
Ecology/physiology: Evergreen conifer; best colour in full sun with cool nights. Sensitive to prolonged root wetness.
Propagation: Clonal cuttings for trait fidelity. Prune only in green wood.
