Hoya Tips
Wonderful Hoyas! Numerous varieties, each with unique colors and shapes! Their beauty lies not only in their blooms but also in their foliage. They are popular indoor plants that can bloom as early as the first year.
Also known as 'wax plants' and 'porcelain flowers'. They need warmth, humidity, and bright light to bloom. A south-facing window is the ideal choice.
Cover your couch! Hoya flowers produce sticky nectar that may drip. This is normal, but be sure to protect your furniture.
Plant Care Hoya
Place
They need bright but indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, but a few hours of morning sun are beneficial for Hoyas. They can adapt to shady spots, but are unlikely to bloom there.
Watering
Hoyas store water in their leaves. Allow the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings. Then water thoroughly and let the plant drain. Do not overwater, as it can easily lead to a Hoya drying out. Water sparingly in winter.
Temperature
Happy at room temperatures between 18–24°C. Avoid drafts and extreme temperatures. They prefer temperatures above 16°C and do not tolerate temperatures below 10°C well.
Pruning
No special pruning is required. Remove any dry leaves or stems. If your Hoya grows too long, simply trim it to your preferred length.
Food
During the growing season, apply a fertilizer rich in potassium and phosphorus but low in nitrogen. Orchid Myst is a very good option for additional feeding of Hoyas.
Height – Growth Rate
Fast-growing, some varieties reach lengths of up to 6 meters in the wild and up to 3 meters indoors. Others remain smaller. Prune in spring to maintain the desired length.
Toxicity
The stems and flowers of Hoyas contain latex, a sticky substance that can irritate the skin and is considered toxic. Therefore, keep them away from children and pets.

Substrate
As epiphytic plants, they need soil with very good aeration and drainage. Repotting should not be frequent, as the plant prefers to be 'crowded' in its pot due to its epiphytic nature.
