PotShield® is a 100% plant-derived mulch made from compressed flax, designed for the soil surface in plant pots. It helps limit weed germination and growth, offering a practical way to manage the surface of the potting medium. Spread evenly over the soil, it can be incorporated into planting or repotting, ideally starting with clean substrate free of existing weeds.
With the first watering, the compressed pellets open up and their fibres interweave to form a mulch layer. Its surface dries quickly, creating less favourable conditions for new weed seeds to germinate. Even application and topping up areas where the covering becomes thinner help the material function as intended, while watering continues according to the plant’s needs.

Targeted maintenance
Maintain the covering by carefully removing any weeds and topping up areas where it has become thinner.
Application steps
Application steps
Start with an even layer approximately 5 mm deep while the material is dry, before watering. Choose from 500 g, 1 kg and 2 kg packs according to the pots you want to cover. The quantity depends on the exposed soil area, rather than simply the number of plants.
01Start with a clean surface
Carefully remove existing weeds. For the best start, apply immediately after potting into clean substrate.
02Spread approximately 5 mm of dry material
Distribute PotShield® evenly over the soil surface. The 5 mm measurement refers to the dry layer before watering, not the expanded layer.
03Water and monitor the layer
Water to open the pellets and form the surface layer. Then water according to your plant’s needs. Avoid extra watering that keeps the surface constantly wet.
04Checking and topping up
If weeds appear, remove them carefully, keeping the layer as intact as possible. Top up areas where the covering has become thinner.
For best results
Apply PotShield® to clean substrate after removing any existing weeds. Water according to the plant’s needs, avoiding a constantly wet surface. If individual weeds appear, remove them carefully and top up areas where the layer has become thinner.

Practical answers about application, watering and maintenance.
01Can I apply it to an established potted plant?
Yes, after carefully removing existing weeds. The best starting point is clean substrate immediately after potting. In an established pot, seeds may remain in the soil and could grow through the layer.
02Do I mix it into the soil or apply it on top?
PotShield® is applied over the soil surface as a mulch layer. Spread it evenly, then water to open the pellets and help the fibres interweave. For this application, do not mix it into the substrate.
03Which pack should I choose, and how many pots will it cover?
It comes in 500 g, 1 kg and 2 kg packs. There is no fixed number of pots per pack: a wide pot needs more material than a narrow one. Base your choice on the total exposed soil area you want to cover, aiming for an even layer approximately 5 mm deep while the material is dry.
04Should I measure the 5 mm before or after watering?
Before watering, while the pellets are still dry. They open up when watered, changing the structure of the layer. Approximately 5 mm is the guide for the initial application to a clean surface, not a measurement of the expanded material.
05Do I need to change how I water my plant?
The first watering helps the pellets open up and form the layer. After that, continue watering according to your plant’s needs. Avoid extra watering simply to keep PotShield® wet: rapid surface drying is part of how it works.
06What if weeds appear or the layer becomes thinner?
Remove weeds carefully to keep the covering as intact as possible, and top up thin areas. Seeds already present in the substrate can grow through the layer, while a constantly wet surface favours germination. Regular checks remain useful.
