Like a tiny desert sculpture that just sits there and looks perfect 🪴
Family: Aloaceae • Pot diameter: 12 cm • Height: 15 cm
x Gasteraloe 'Snow Rock' is a compact, sculptural succulent with thick triangular leaves arranged in a low rosette. The dark green-grey leaf surface is dusted with white spots, like a rock sprinkled with snow, giving a very clean, architectural look on desks, shelves and windowsills. It grows slowly, needs very little water and loves bright light, making it ideal for busy plant owners or beginners who want something special without high maintenance.
Place it in a very bright spot indoors or in a protected outdoor area without frost. It can handle a few hours of direct sun, especially in the morning or late afternoon, which helps keep the rosette compact. Avoid spots that stay constantly damp or have stagnant air; a windowsill or shelf close to the light is ideal.
Design goal: a tiny “desert micro-scene” with clean lines that looks curated without constant care.
Taxonomic background: x Gasteraloe hybrids arise from crosses between Aloe and Gasteria species, two genera in the family Aloaceae that originate mainly from South Africa. Their hybrid nature is indicated by the symbol x placed before the genus name.
Habitat & distribution: In the wild, the ancestors of these hybrids grow on dry, rocky slopes and open sites with poor, stony soils and intense light. Their drought tolerance made them excellent candidates for ornamental use around the world.
Selection & breeding: The cultivar 'Snow Rock' was selected in the nursery trade for its strong contrast between the dark foliage and the snowy white speckles, as well as for a compact, low rosette that fits perfectly into small pots. The goal was to combine the toughness of a succulent with a distinctive, collector-grade appearance.
Propagation & character: It is propagated vegetatively (rosette cuttings or division of offsets) so that each plant keeps the same clonal traits. The leaf surface, with its white spots and slight roughness, recalls natural stone — an effect that inspired the name 'Snow Rock'.

A very free-draining substrate for succulents and cacti, with a high mineral fraction so that water does not pool around the roots.
