Compact shrub, big spring impact ✨
Family: Oleaceae • Pot diameter: 19cm (3L) • Height: 40–50cm
Forsythia Marée d’Or® ('Courtasol') is a low, broad and compact forsythia that brings vivid yellow colour very early in the season, before most shrubs have even filled with leaves. Its flowers appear along the stems in bright, clean yellow tones, creating a striking spring display with a lower and more controlled shape than classic tall forsythias. With its broad, almost ground-covering character, it works beautifully in borders, slopes, large pots, low mass plantings and places where you need a plant that brings instant seasonal light without becoming bulky. It is a choice with clear garden value: rich flowering, compact growth, good resilience and easy adaptation to different uses.
Choose a sunny to lightly shaded position with soil that drains well and does not stay permanently heavy. Forsythia Marée d’Or® ('Courtasol') flowers more generously with plenty of light, while its low, spreading character makes it ideal for front planting lines, slopes, borders and large pots. In a pot, it needs a quality substrate and steady watering during warm months, especially until it establishes well. In the garden, it can be used as a low flowering shrub that opens the season with strong, clean colour.
Composition goal: early spring intensity, low spreading growth and clean contrast with darker or cooler colours in the garden.
Taxonomic background: Forsythia belongs to the family Oleaceae and includes deciduous shrubs known for their early yellow flowering before the leaves emerge. Marée d’Or® is the commercial name of the cultivar 'Courtasol', which is also sold as Gold Tide in some markets.
Selection & distribution: This cultivar is linked to French selection and was commercially distributed through the SAPHO network. Its special value lies in its low, broad habit, which distinguishes it from taller classic forsythias and allows use on slopes, in borders and in pots.
Naming: The name Marée d’Or means “golden tide” and describes the variety perfectly when it flowers: a low, spreading wave of bright yellow blooms early in spring.
Variety character: Forsythia Marée d’Or® ('Courtasol') stands out for its broad, compact growth, rich early flowering and usefulness as a low flowering shrub. It can work both as a strong spring feature and as a practical covering element in mixed plantings.
