A small shrub with an unexpectedly serious sense of elegance 🪴
Family: Rutaceae • Pot diameter: 15 cm • Height: 25–30 cm
The Eriostemon 'White Star' is an elegant evergreen shrub with narrow, aromatic foliage and a beautifully refined flowering display that brings brightness without ever feeling overstated. Pink buds open into pure white, star-shaped flowers with a lightly waxy texture, creating a look that feels crisp, polished and quietly sophisticated. It is an excellent choice for patios, bright courtyards, large pots and spots near seating areas or entrances, where both the flowering display and the gentle scent of the foliage can be enjoyed up close.
Choose a position in sun or very bright partial shade, always in a substrate with excellent drainage. It performs especially well on patios, in sheltered courtyards and in spots that do not stay wet in winter. With good light and air movement, it keeps a neater, denser shape and produces a cleaner, fuller display of flowers.
Role in a composition: the elegant evergreen shrub that brings spring brightness, fine foliage and a calm sense of lightness.
Botanical background: The plant is still widely sold in horticulture as Eriostemon myoporoides, but in current taxonomic use the species is placed in the genus Philotheca, as Philotheca myoporoides. It belongs to the family Rutaceae, the same broad family as many aromatic plants and citrus relatives.
Native range: The species is native to Australia and has long been valued in ornamental horticulture for its aromatic foliage and particularly refined flowering display.
The 'White Star' form: The commercial name refers to its clean white, star-shaped flowers that open from pink buds. Much of its charm comes from the contrast between the calm, understated foliage and the very bright, crisp flowers.
Ornamental character: It combines elegant spring flowering, evergreen structure and a relatively restrained growth habit, which makes it especially suitable for pots, patios and carefully composed small-scale plantings.

Yes, as long as the pot drains properly and the plant is kept in a position with very good light. In those conditions it can be exceptionally beautiful and stable.
It does very well in sun or at least very bright partial shade. The better the light, the denser and more floriferous it tends to remain.
The foliage is aromatic when touched or gently rubbed, and the plant as a whole carries that refined, fresh character often associated with members of the citrus family.
Its main flowering season is spring, when the pink buds gradually open into white, star-shaped flowers.
