A compact rosette succulent with fleshy blue-green to grey-blue leaves that can develop pink, bronze or burgundy tones along the edges in strong light. The leaf surface has a soft waxy bloom, giving the plant a refined matte finish and a clean look in every composition.
Place it outdoors in full sun or indoors in a very bright position. Indoors, a bright windowsill with strong light is ideal, while outdoors it should be acclimated gradually before receiving intense sun. Use a succulent or cactus mix with roughly 30–50% mineral material such as perlite or pumice. Water deeply, then wait until the mix has dried completely before watering again. Avoid leaving water in the centre of the rosette or in the saucer.
Taxonomic basis: Echeveria belongs to the family Crassulaceae, a succulent plant family that includes many rosette-forming species adapted to bright, free-draining habitats. The genus is naturally distributed across the Americas, with Mexico as a major centre of diversity.
Cultivar identity: Echeveria 'Blue Prince' is grown as a horticultural hybrid/cultivar selected for its compact rosette, blue-green foliage and warmer leaf-edge tones in strong light. It is used ornamentally for its stable rosette shape and strong colour response under bright conditions.
Selection character: The cultivar is valued for its blue-grey tone, waxy matte surface and pink to bronze leaf margins that become more visible with stronger light and careful watering. This makes it especially useful in succulent displays where colour and geometry matter.
Foliage & flowering: The fleshy leaves are covered with a protective waxy bloom that gives the plant its blue-grey, powdered look. Mature plants can produce seasonal flowers on upright stalks, usually in warm growing conditions with enough light.
Reference habitat & cultivation: Wild Echeveria species are commonly associated with rocky, well-drained positions and bright exposure. In cultivation, this translates into high light, mineral drainage, careful watering and protection from frost and long wet periods.
Distinction from related forms: Compared with paler, softer-toned species such as Echeveria lilacina, 'Blue Prince' is usually darker and more saturated, with stronger bronze or reddish edge colour when grown in bright light.
Propagation & stability: It can be propagated from leaves or offsets. A compact shape and stronger colour are maintained best with very bright light, sparse watering and a free-draining mix.
