Echeveria 'Blue Bird' looks like a small sculpture made from cool, silver-blue shades. Its thick, pointed leaves are arranged precisely in a symmetrical rosette and covered with a soft natural waxy coating, giving it an almost porcelain-like appearance. During bright, cooler periods, the margins can flush red or pink, creating a delicate contrast around the icy blue centre. Elegant, clean and architectural, it works like a small living decorative object.
At its current size, it is shown best on a windowsill, bright shelf or small table, where the symmetry and powdery texture of the leaves can be seen up close. Indoors, it needs a position very close to a bright window. Outdoors, prefer gentle morning sun and bright shade during the hot hours; in the warm Greek summer, hot afternoon sun can cause permanent burns. It should also be protected from prolonged rain and frost.
Creator: Echeveria 'Blue Bird' is a cultivated hybrid created by the well-known plant breeder Frank Reinelt.
Probable parentage: The most likely parents are reported as Echeveria colorata and Echeveria desmetiana. Because the exact cross has not been definitively documented, its parentage is correctly described as probable.

Water well and repeat only when the substrate has dried through almost the full depth of the pot. Do not water on a fixed calendar, because the drying time changes according to the season, light and temperature. In winter, it needs even less frequent watering.
Yes, but it must be very close to one of the brightest windows in the home. It is not a plant for a dark shelf or an indoor spot away from natural light, because the rosette opens and loses its compact shape.
The leaves are covered with a natural waxy coating, which is removed locally by touch and leaves darker fingerprints. These marks usually remain on that specific leaf, so hold the pot from the base and avoid wiping the rosette.
If the new leaves become spaced out, flatten and lean towards the light, the plant usually needs a brighter position. However, if an older stem gradually becomes visible as the lower leaves are lost, this can be a normal part of 'Blue Bird' maturing.
