LECHUZA Classic System
Direct planting above the reservoir
Plant directly in the single-piece CLASSICO Color body above the separator base. The supplied LECHUZA-PON creates the moisture-wicking zone beneath the roots; after the initial rooting period, add water through the dedicated filling shaft. The water-level indicator clearly shows the MIN and MAX levels.
There is no removable plant liner: the CLASSICO Color is designed for direct planting.
For the first few weeks, water from above, as in a conventional planter.
After rooting, use the reservoir and the MIN/MAX water-level indicator.
In an uncovered outdoor area, remove the plug from the bottom so that excess rainwater can drain away.

From planting to self-watering in four steps
The correct start helps the roots fully utilize the Classic System.
01 · Set up the base
Place the separating base, the indicator, and the filling shaft according to the instructions and spread the provided LECHUZA-PON.
02 · Plant directly
Add substrate suitable for the plant directly inside the CLASSICO body, keeping the filling shaft and water-level indicator clear.
03 · Water from above
In the first weeks, water the substrate from above so that the roots grow toward the moisture zone.
04 · Use the water reservoir
When the plant starts to draw water, fill through the filling shaft and monitor the MIN and MAX indicators.
The identity of CLASSICO
A timeless curve
The slightly open round shape balances between the classic and the contemporary. Use the same color in different sizes for a calm continuity or combine shades for a more vibrant composition.
For hot summer weather
The water reservoir helps — control remains necessary
Consumption varies with the type of plant, sun, wind, and the size of the planter. During heat waves or in very exposed spots, check the indicator and substrate moisture daily.
Where each size fits
18Shelf, windowsill, desk, or small table, for small plants and compositions.
21–28Table, low furniture, balcony, or flexible placement near a bright spot.
35–43Floor placement at home, entrance, reception area, professional space, balcony or protected courtyard.
60–70Large spaces, hotels, stores, atriums, and large-volume plantings, on a surface suitable for the total weight.
How to choose the right setup
01Measure the root ball, not just the height or the spread of the foliage.
02Check the inner diameter and the planting depth for the specific size.
03Leave enough space for growth, without an excessively large gap that would make moisture control difficult.
04For 60 and 70, calculate the weight of the planter along with substrate, plant, and full water reservoir.

Optional accessory
Concealed wheeled base for 43 and 60
The special base is hidden under the planter and facilitates the movement of the planted CLASSICO Color in any direction. Choose the corresponding base size for 43 or 60.
For dust and everyday marks, a soft, slightly damp cloth is enough. Avoid abrasive sponges and strong cleaners, so that the surface remains uniform.
!
Before using it outdoors
In an uncovered spot, remove the drain plug from the bottom to allow excess rainwater to drain away. For indoor use, the plug must remain properly closed. Always place the planted CLASSICO on a stable, flat surface that can support the total weight.
Frequently asked questions
What CLASSICO Color sizes are available on this page?
Greenleaf offers CLASSICO Color 18, 21, 28, 35, 43, 60, and 70. The outer dimensions range from Ø18 × 17 cm up to Ø70 × 64.5 cm, while the water reservoir ranges from 0.6 to 26.5 L.
What does the All-in-One Set include?
It includes the CLASSICO Color, the separating base, the Classic System equipment with filling shaft and water-level indicator, as well as LECHUZA-PON for the base layer. The plant and additional substrate are not included.
Is the plant liner removable?
No. The CLASSICO Color is a single-piece unit for direct planting and does not have a removable plant liner.
Do I fill the reservoir immediately after planting?
For the first few weeks, water from above, until the roots reach the moisture zone. Then you can transition to reservoir watering: fill it about halfway and observe if the level drops in the following days. When the plant starts drawing water, use the filling shaft and the MAX indicator normally.
When do I refill the reservoir?
When the indicator reaches MIN, allow the appropriate dry phase for your plant and then refill up to MAX. The duration depends on the species, location, temperature, and wind. On very hot days, check the indicator and substrate moisture daily.
Is it suitable for outdoor use and rain?
Yes. The body is resistant to UV exposure and weather conditions. In an uncovered outdoor area, remove the plug from the bottom so that excess rainwater can drain away.
Which sizes fit the wheeled base?
The concealed wheeled base from Greenleaf is available for CLASSICO Color 43 and 60. Choose the corresponding base size; it is not compatible with CLASSICO Color 70.
