Golden foliage without a trace of excess — almost suspiciously polished 😏
Choisya • Family: Rutaceae • Pot: 3 L • Height: 40 cm
Choisya × dewitteana 'Goldfingers' ('Limo' PBR) is an exceptionally elegant evergreen choisya with narrow, luminous golden-yellow foliage that keeps a space looking alive even when the plant is not in flower. It has a finer texture than the more classic choisyas and a cleaner, more compact outline, which makes it ideal for patios, balconies, entrances and smaller gardens where you want reliable structure without visual heaviness. When its white, fragrant flowers open, the whole plant becomes even brighter and more aromatic, with a character that feels both Mediterranean and carefully refined.
Choose a position in sun or light partial shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. In more sun the foliage keeps a stronger golden tone, while in more shade it becomes slightly greener. It is ideal for places that need steady brightness and evergreen presence through the year, without demanding difficult care or constant intervention.
Role in a composition: the bright evergreen shrub that brings colour, volume and stability without making the planting feel heavy.
Botanical background: This variety belongs to the Choisya × dewitteana line, the hybrid group associated with the narrow-leaved choisyas descended from breeding work around Choisya ternata and Choisya arizonica. That background helps explain the aromatic foliage, elegant structure and finer leaf shape.
The making of 'Goldfingers': The selection is linked to breeder Peter R. Moore and is marketed as 'Goldfingers' with the cultivar code 'Limo' PBR. It is widely described as combining the golden colour of 'Sundance' with the form of 'Aztec Pearl'.
Identity of the variety: It stands out for its long, narrow golden-yellow leaves, compact bushy growth and fragrant white flowers. The foliage is the real signature feature, keeping the plant decorative far beyond the flowering season.
Character and use: It usually matures as a relatively compact shrub, around 120 cm high and about 60 cm wide, which makes it especially useful for pots, patios, balconies and smaller plantings where evergreen structure and bright foliage are both welcome.
