The Capi Planter ball Clay NL ivory brings the feel of natural clay to a lightweight, contemporary pot. Its soft ivory shade brightens the foliage and pairs easily with wood, stone and calm earthy surfaces, while the Clay relief adds depth without heaviness. The spherical shape has a balanced presence and works equally well alone or in an arrangement of pots at different heights. An understated yet distinctive base for a plant, suited to contemporary interiors, entrances, balconies and terraces.

Nature Clay NL
The natural cracks of clay as a textured surface
The Clay texture takes inspiration from the stage when wet clay dries, hardens and forms irregular cracks. Capi translates this natural process into a controlled relief, giving the surface an organic, handmade appearance while keeping the overall outline clean. In ivory, the pattern's shadows appear soft, adding character without competing with the plant.

Balanced ball shapeA rounded silhouette that visually embraces the plant without looking heavy.
Soft ivoryA bright natural shade that pairs easily with warm and cool materials.
Orange insulating layerProtects roots from heat and frost and reinforces the construction.
Lightweight & durableBreak resistance without the weight of a ceramic pot.
UV & frost resistantSuitable for demanding outdoor use.
More responsible constructionCO₂-neutral production, recycled materials and 100% recyclable.
For indoor useAglaonema, calathea, schefflera or alocasia, sized to suit the available root space.
For outdoor useNandina, myrtle, phormium or ornamental grasses, with substrate and a position suited to the plant's needs.
Where it looks bestIn a bright living-room corner, entrance, sheltered balcony or terrace. The ivory shade works particularly well beside wood, terracotta and light-coloured stone.
Plant choice depends on root-system growth and the conditions of the space. Plant, substrate and drainage materials are not included.

Planting guide
Correct preparation for indoors and outdoors
Preparation varies with the location and growing method. In the cross-sections below, each number corresponds to a specific layer or component, showing the correct order at a glance.
Indoors · planting with substrate
Direct planting indoors
Schematic cross-section of the Capi Planter ball Clay NL · the orange line represents the insulating inner layer and the base remains without a drainage hole.
1
Approximately 2/3 suitable substrate around the plant.
2
Water-permeable geotextile across the entire cross-section, above the LECA.
3
Approximately 1/3 clean LECA in the lowest zone.
4
Intact, watertight base without a drainage hole.
Do not drill the base, so the pot remains watertight.
Fill approximately the bottom third with clean LECA.
Cover the LECA with water-permeable geotextile to keep it separate from the substrate.
Position the plant at the correct height and fill with suitable substrate, without excessive compaction.
Watering: as there is no water outlet, water carefully. LECA helps manage moisture, but does not make the pot self-watering or correct overwatering.
Outdoors · planting with substrate
Direct planting outdoors
Schematic cross-section of the Capi Planter ball Clay NL · the orange line represents the insulating layer and two separate filters keep drainage clear.
1
Approximately 2/3 suitable substrate around the plant.
2
Water-permeable geotextile across the entire cross-section, above the LECA.
3
Approximately 1/3 clean LECA for free water movement.
4
A small piece of water-permeable mesh only over the hole.
5
Drainage hole at least Ø25 mm at the mark on the base.
Locate the drilling mark on the base and drill a drainage hole at least 25 mm in diameter at that point.
Cover only the hole with a small piece of water-permeable mesh or geotextile to prevent blockage.
Add approximately 1/3 LECA and cover its entire surface with water-permeable geotextile.
Add suitable substrate, position the plant at the correct height and fill without excessive compaction.
For frost: keep the hole clear and the pot slightly raised, so it does not retain water that could freeze.
Indoors · LECA only
Alternative: full hydroculture
The LECA-only method differs from planting with substrate. It requires a plant already grown for hydroculture, with roots adapted to the water and oxygen conditions in LECA.
The hydroculture plant stays in its special perforated growing pot; it is not planted bare-root.
Use LECA suitable as a growing medium, not a grade intended only for filling or decoration.
Use a water-level indicator and specialist hydroculture nutrients.
The base remains without a hole, and growing-grade LECA is added around the plant's perforated pot.
Schematic cross-section of full hydroculture · the growing pot stays within the LECA.
1
Perforated growing pot The hydroculture plant stays inside it.
2
Water-level indicator For correct monitoring from OPT to MIN.
3
Growing-grade LECA Around the growing pot.
4
Shallow water zone Monitored with the water-level indicator.
Indoors · semi-hydroculture
Semi-hydroculture: the geotextile method
Here the geotextile covers the entire cross-section, separating the substrate from the shallow water and LECA zone while allowing moisture to move upwards. This is a separate planting system using substrate, rather than LECA-only cultivation.
Keep the base intact. If a hole has already been drilled, use a watertight insert.
Fit a water-level indicator or filling tube.
Create a LECA layer approximately 4–5 cm deep at the bottom.
Cover all the LECA with water-permeable geotextile and add substrate and the plant above it.
Schematic cross-section of semi-hydroculture · the geotextile separates the substrate from the shallow LECA zone.
1
Suitable substrate Around the plant.
2
Water-permeable geotextile Across the entire cross-section.
3
LECA 4–5 cm With a shallow water zone.
4
Level indicator Or filling tube.
Important for frost resistance: the pot must drain freely, without water remaining inside and freezing. Once filled, do not drag it; if it needs moving, empty it first or lift it correctly.
Cleaning & protection
Clean the textured Clay surface with a soft brush or slightly damp cloth.
Avoid abrasive sponges and strong chemical cleaners.
For outdoor use, regularly check that the drainage hole remains clear.
Designed to last
The orange layer provides insulation and reinforces the construction.
WPC offers a substantial appearance at a considerably lower weight.
The pot is 100% recyclable at the end of its life.
Frequently asked questions
Is it suitable for indoor and outdoor use?
Yes. For indoor use, keep the base intact so it remains watertight. For outdoor use, drill a drainage hole at least Ø25 mm.
Does it come with a drainage hole?
No. Supplied without an open hole so it can also be used indoors. If placed outside, drill a hole at least Ø25 mm at the mark on the base and keep it clear.
Can I plant directly in the pot?
The 25 L capacity allows direct planting, provided the plant suits the available space. Outdoors, first ensure free drainage; indoors, water carefully because there is no water outlet.
Where does the Clay texture come from?
Inspired by clay as it dries, hardens and forms natural cracks. The relief expresses this process through organic, irregular lines.
Is it really frost-resistant?
Yes, when used correctly: with open drainage, no standing water and raised off the ground where needed. Water trapped inside can cause damage when it freezes.
What does “lifetime warranty” mean?
It does not mean unlimited replacement for all wear. Under its published terms, Capi covers proven material or manufacturing defects in Made in Holland products from the date of purchase. Exclusions include normal wear, misuse or unintended use, transport damage for which Capi is not responsible, and damage from natural hazards such as frost. Proof of purchase and photographs are required for a claim. This additional commercial warranty does not limit the consumer's statutory rights against the seller. See Capi's official terms and claim form.
