Calathea makoyana
(Peacock plant)
Family: Marantaceae
Diameter of pot:12cm, Height:40cm.
An excellent addition to any interior because of the elegance and beauty of this variety. Its almost round and variegated leaves steal the show. It has large, oval, upturned leaves, arranged on long, slender stems. The cream surface of the leaf surface is decorated with clean ribs and irregular green margins. In addition, the leaves appear oval, smaller or larger, and dark green spotted, creating an attractive pattern. The same decorations appear on the underside of the leaves, but in purple-red. These colours blend together beautifully and the designs on the leaves look as if they were hand-painted.
Provenance: Brazil.
Care
As a tropical plant, it will thrive if the conditions (light, humidity, temperature) simulate those of its natural environment.
Light: It needs bright locations to grow properly. Direct exposure to sun should be avoided, although slight exposure to morning sun can be positive for the plant. Dark locations should be avoided.
Watering: It is a moisture-loving plant. It loves water. It needs to keep the topsoil moist during the growing season. Ideally prefers watering with low-salt water, such as rainwater or filtered water.
Temperature: Avoid low temperatures and cold air currents.
Toxicity: Pet friendly and safe for pets.
Tip: Clean the leaves with a dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use leaf polish on the Calatea as it damages the foliage.
