Bonsai Aluminium Wire 3.0mm

Controlled branch training through correct support, angle and regular checking.

Diameter: 3.0 mm · Net weight: 100 g

  • Black anodised
  • Flexible aluminium
  • Branch training
  • Pot anchoring

The Bonsai Aluminium Wire 3.0mm is black anodised aluminium wire in a 100 g roll, for temporary branch training and for securing a tree during repotting. Aluminium is easier to work than copper, but correct gauge selection and frequent checking remain essential.

The wire guides—it does not squeeze the bark

A secure anchor and even coils distribute holding force along the branch.

  • Apply at about 45° without overlapping coils.
  • Support the branch with your fingers while bending.
  • Remove before the wire begins to mark the bark.
The one-third rule is a starting point
Actual holding power depends on species, age and branch flexibility.

01

Controlled training

Flexible aluminium needs less application force than copper and supports gradual adjustments.

02

Discreet black finish

The dark anodised surface reduces the visual prominence of wire on trunk and branches.

03

Two practical uses

Suitable for temporary branch guidance and careful securing in a pot.

Where to begin testing 3.0 mm

This gauge can be considered initially for branches that need more holding power. It is not a guarantee of suitability without testing.

Training

One branch, one controlled line

Choose a length that allows a secure anchor and covers the route without a join midway.

Securing

A stable tree after repotting

Pass the wire through suitable holes and secure it without creating a pressure point on roots or trunk.

Correct holdHolds with one layer

The branch keeps position without multiple wraps.

Check firstBrittle or old wood

Use small movements and finger support.

Do not forceUnsuitable gauge

Change diameter instead of adding force.

Before applicationGauge selection & holding testSpecies, flexibility and branch diameter all affect the choice.

Begin at roughly one third of the branch

The 3.0 mm may suit branches that need more holding power, but the rule is only a starting point. Test a short length in a safe area first.

Good sign

The branch holds with a gentle bend

The wire supports the new position without multiple layers and without compressing the bark.

Change gauge

It does not hold or needs excessive force

Wire that is too thin will not hold; wire that is too thick increases the risk of damage during application.

Do not rely on the gauge label alone

Wood stiffness and bending direction vary by tree. Old or brittle wood requires particular care.

Technique guideApply and remove in four stepsAnchor, wrap, bend and remove safely.

Apply and remove in four steps

Always support the branch with your fingers close to the work area and do not press the wire into the bark.

01

Create a secure anchor

Begin from a stable point so the wire does not shift when bending starts.

02

Wrap at about 45°

Keep the coils even, without overlaps and without trapping leaves or buds.

03

Bend gradually

Support the branch and use small, controlled movements rather than one abrupt bend.

04

Cut every coil

When removal is due, cut the wire at every turn; do not unwind it from the branch.

Remove before it marks the bark

Check often, especially during strong growth. There is no single fixed interval that suits every species and season.

FinishBlack anodised

Dark finish for a more discreet appearance on the tree.

Training

Guiding branches

Used to hold a new position temporarily while the branch adapts.

Repotting

Securing the tree

It can pass through suitable pot holes for stabilisation without pressing on the trunk or roots.

Clean cutting and dry storage

Cut ends can be sharp. Use a suitable wire cutter and keep the remaining roll organised.

Protect eyes and hands

Keep the loose end controlled while cutting.

Do not unwind it

Cutting each coil reduces friction and the risk of bark damage.

Store away from children

Wire and cutters are not toys.

Frequently asked questions

01How do I choose the correct wire gauge?

As a starting test, use wire with a diameter around one third of the branch diameter. Wood stiffness and flexibility affect the result, so test a short length first.

02At what angle should it be applied?

At about 45°, with even coils and no overlap. The wire should make stable contact without pressing into the bark.

03When should the wire be removed?

Before it begins to mark the bark. Check regularly and more often during strong growth because timing varies by species and season.

04Can I unwind and reuse it?

For safe removal from a branch, cut the wire at every coil rather than unwinding it. The cut sections should not be reused for new branch training.

05Can it secure a tree in its pot?

Yes, when passed through suitable holes and positioned to stabilise the tree without damaging the trunk or roots.

06Is a wire cutter included?

No. The package contains only one 100 g roll of wire in the stated gauge.
