BOLA Color

The BOLA Color brings greenery to eye level with a clean, almost floating spherical form. The smooth upper part meets the thin horizontal grooves of the lower shell and creates a calm yet distinctive contrast, ideal for hanging plants that want to become part of the space's architecture.

Ø23 × 18 / Ø32 × 25 W × H cm

62 / 66 cm Total height with suspension

0.7 / 2 L Water reservoir

3.5 / 8.5 kg Maximum total load

In BOLA, the numbers 23 and 32 correspond to the outer diameter in centimeters. The maximum load refers to the entire hanging assembly, including the planter, plant liner, PON, substrate, plant, and water.

LECHUZA Classic System · perimeter filling

The water goes in through the ring without disturbing the foliage

Between the smooth upper part and the grooved lower shell remains an open perimeter ring. From there, the water is directed to the reservoir, while the MIN/MAX indicator shows the available level. The removable plant liner keeps the planting separate and can be lifted when change or maintenance is needed.

Fill from whichever point of the perimeter ring is most easily accessible.
The provided LECHUZA-PON forms the functional irrigation layer under the substrate.
For the first approximately 12 weeks, water from the top until the roots reach the moisture zone.
In an uncovered outdoor area, open the lower drain plug so the overflow can carry away excess rainwater.

Water from outside, not through the leaves

The peripheral ring remains accessible even when the plant covers the top opening with dense or pendulous foliage.

Two textures in one clean sphere

The smooth matte surface on top and the fine grooves below give depth without visually weighing down the hanging composition.

removable plant liner, cleaner care

The plant liner lifts out with the planting for easier repotting, inspection and system maintenance.

BOLA 23 or BOLA 32?

The choice depends on the available free space, the root ball, and the permissible total load of the suspension.

BOLA Color 23

More compact

Outer dimensions: Ø23 × 18 cm
Total height with suspension: 62 cm
Water reservoir: 0.7 L
Plant volume: 1.2 L
plant liner approx.: Ø12 cm
Planting depth: 12 cm
Maximum plant height: 30 cm
Maximum total load: 3.5 kg

BOLA Color 32

More spacious

Outer dimensions: Ø32 × 25 cm
Total height with suspension: 66 cm
Water reservoir: 2 L
Plant volume: 3.1 L
plant liner approx.: Ø17 cm
Planting depth: 15 cm
Maximum plant height: 30 cm
Maximum total load: 8.5 kg

From assembly to self-watering in four steps

The BOLA is assembled, planted, and balanced before being raised to the final hanging point.

01 · Assemble the system

Place the water-level indicator and the removable plant liner correctly in the outer shell.

02 · Attach the suspension

Secure all three cables at the designated points and check that they have equal tension.

03 · Add PON and plant

Cover the bottom of the plant liner with the provided LECHUZA-PON, place the plant, and fill with suitable substrate with even weight distribution.

04 · Start by watering from above

Water the substrate from above for about 12 weeks. After rooting, fill from the ring to the MAX and maintain the appropriate dry phase at MIN.

The identity of BOLA

Designed to be viewable from all sides

The symmetrical spherical form has no “back” side. Since the suspension allows free rotation, the transition from the smooth upper part to the grooved lower shell remains seamless from every angle.

Exclusively hanging

Does not have an independent flat base

BOLA is designed to be hung from the ceiling or another suitable overhead structure. It is not a tabletop planter and should not be used resting loosely on a surface.

Where each size fits

23Small room, corner near a window or protected small balcony, when a more discreet volume is needed.
32Living room, large bright corner or covered veranda, for a fuller hanging arrangement and larger root ball.
↻Both sizes need free space in order to rotate without touching a wall, glass, light fixture, or any other object.

How to choose a plant

01Measure the root ball and compare it with a Ø12 cm plant liner in the 23 or Ø17 cm in the 32.
02Prefer a trailing or compact plant that stands out at eye level.
03Maintain a maximum plant height of 30 cm and uniform weight distribution.
04Account for the plant, substrate, and water within the allowable total load.

What the All-in-One Set includes

The components of the planter and the suspension system are included in the packaging.

LECHUZA-PON Amount for the irrigation layer

Not included the plant, additional substrate, and the suitable ceiling hook or balcony bracket, wall plug or other mounting hardware for the supporting structure.

Cleaning without damage

Soft damp cloth, without abrasives

Clean the smooth and grooved sections with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid hard brushes, abrasive sponges, and strong cleaners that may damage the matte surface.

Inside or outside

The bottom plug changes position depending on the space

In an indoor or fully sheltered location, the plug remains properly closed. In an uncovered outdoor area, it opens so that the integrated overflow drains away excess rainwater.

The safety of the BOLA starts from the suspension point

Use appropriate mounting hardware for the ceiling or structure — not included — and if in doubt, have the installation done by a professional. Do not hang it over a walkway or in a place accessible to children. Allow it to rotate freely, regularly check the mounting, the rotating head, and the three cables, and do not use a worn system. Outdoors, install only in a wind-protected location and take it down in strong wind or storm. Do not exceed a total load of 3.5 kg on the BOLA 23 or 8.5 kg on the BOLA 32.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the BOLA Color 23 and the BOLA Color 32?

The BOLA 23 has dimensions Ø23 × 18 cm, total height 62 cm with suspension, water reservoir 0.7 L, plant volume 1.2 L, and plant liner approx. Ø12 cm. The BOLA 32 has dimensions Ø32 × 25 cm, total height 66 cm, water reservoir 2 L, plant volume 3.1 L, and plant liner approx. Ø17 cm.

What does the All-in-One Set include?

Includes the BOLA Color outer shell with bottom plug, the removable plant liner, the MIN/MAX water-level indicator, LECHUZA-PON, and the stainless steel suspension with rotating head and three cables. The plant, additional substrate, and mounting material for the ceiling or structure are not included.

How does the peripheral filling ring work?

The open ring is located between the smooth top section and the grooved bottom shell. You pour water from any easily accessible point, and it is directed into the reservoir without needing to move dense foliage.

Does it have a removable plant liner?

Yes. The plant, LECHUZA-PON, and substrate are in a separate plant liner, which can be lifted from the outer shell for easier repotting, inspection, and maintenance.

Do I fill the reservoir immediately after planting?

No. For about 12 weeks, water the substrate from above until the roots reach the moisture zone. After rooting, fill from the perimeter ring up to MAX, and when the indicator reaches MIN, allow the appropriate dry phase before refilling.

Can the BOLA Color be used outdoors?

Yes, in a wind-protected location. In an uncovered outdoor area, open the lower drain plug so the overflow can operate, and take down the BOLA in strong winds or storms. Leave enough clearance for it to rotate without striking nearby objects.

What is the maximum load and how is it hung safely?

The total load must not exceed 3.5 kg for the BOLA 23 and 8.5 kg for the BOLA 32, including the planter, plant liner, PON, substrate, plant, and water. The balcony bracket or other structural mounting hardware is not included: it is chosen according to the ceiling or structure and must be checked regularly along with the rotating head and the three steel cables.
