Coarse expanded clay · rapid drainage

Blusana Plant Clay 8–16 mm · 25 L

Pure, coarse expanded clay in 8–16 mm · 25 L for hydroculture, semi-hydro and drainage layers. The durable, porous granules create larger air spaces, move excess water away quickly and provide stable support for plants with stronger root systems.

Material & characteristics

The material

An open structure for rapid drainage

The coarse particles leave generous spaces between the granules. Water can move away freely while air circulates through the root zone.

100%

Expanded clay

A pure mineral material made from natural clay fired at high temperature, with no organic ingredients or built-in fertiliser.

Stable granular structure: The granules retain their shape and do not break down inside the pot.
Large air spaces: The 8–16 mm particles encourage rapid water flow and generous airflow.
pH-neutral: It is not intended to alter the chemistry of the nutrient solution.
No nutrients: Nutrition is supplied separately and adjusted to the plant and growing system.

Rapid drainage

The larger granules allow excess water to move away instead of pooling around the roots.

More air around roots

Open spaces support air exchange throughout the root zone.

Support for strong root systems

The stable mineral structure suits larger plants and roots that need room to develop.

Preparation & use

Before use

Prepare it correctly in four steps

Transport dust is normal with a granular mineral product. A quick rinse or wetting helps remove it before planting.

01Rinse or wet the granules

Use clean water to bind and remove fine transport dust.

02Choose the right setup

Use it alone in a hydroculture system or as a mineral drainage component.

03Fill without crushing

Arrange the roots and add the granules gradually so the air spaces remain open.

04Adjust water and nutrition

Follow the plant's needs, the water-level indicator and the fertiliser instructions for your system.

Expanded clay is not a fertiliser

The material contains no built-in nutrients. In hydroculture or semi-hydro, use a suitable fertiliser and follow that product's dosage instructions rather than applying an improvised ratio.

Pack size

Blusana · 25 L

The 25 L pack is practical for larger containers, several repotting jobs or more extensive drainage applications.

Product condition

Ready after rinsing

Rinsing does not change the material; it simply removes fine dust that can form during transport.

Storage

Keep the pack closed in a clean, dry place. After reuse, clean the granules and allow them to dry completely.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about particle size, preparation and correct use.

01What is Blusana Plant Clay?

It is pure expanded clay made from natural clay fired at high temperature. This is a stable, porous mineral material with no organic ingredients or built-in fertiliser.

02When should I choose the 8–16 mm size?

Choose the coarse size when you want larger air spaces, rapid drainage and room for a stronger root system.

03Should I rinse it before use?

A quick rinse or wetting with clean water is recommended to remove fine dust that can be produced during transport.

04Does it contain fertiliser?

No. For hydroculture, add a suitable fertiliser separately and follow the dosage and schedule for that specific product.

05Can it be reused?

Yes, provided the granules remain in good condition. Remove roots and residues, clean them carefully and allow them to dry before using them again.

06Are differences in colour or texture normal?

Yes. As the raw material is natural clay, minor differences in colour, surface and shape between batches are normal.
