Self-watering · Classic System

BALCONERA Color 80

The BALCONERA Color 80 transforms a railing, wall, or wide windowsill into a complete green line 79 cm long, with a clean rectangular shape and elegant matte surface. Flowers, herbs, and compact vegetables take the spotlight, while the planter remains discreet and contemporary. The two independent removable plant liners allow you to comfortably plant on a bench, organize different compositions, and then place them in the outer planter body, while the genuine LECHUZA self-watering system simplifies day-to-day care.

LECHUZA Classic System

Water is stored below. The roots draw up what they need.

The provided LECHUZA-PON is placed over the separating base and creates the zone that delivers moisture to the roots. Once the initial rooting period is completed, the reservoir is filled through the special filling shaft, and the water-level indicator shows when the water reaches MAX or MIN.

The two plant liners operate as separate units, so they can be planted and moved independently.
For the first few weeks, water from above, as in a conventional planter.
After rooting, fill the water reservoir from the filling shaft up to the MAX mark.
In an uncovered outdoor area, remove the drainage plug so that excess rainwater can escape.

Two independent plant liners

Each plant liner lifts out separately using its recessed handles, so you can work comfortably on a bench or on the ground.

Calmer summer

The total 5 L water reservoir and the water-level indicator reduce unnecessary refills and clearly show when a check is needed.

Built for outdoors

The high-quality plastic is lightweight, resistant to breakage, UV exposure, and weather conditions.

From planting to self-watering in four steps

The correct start helps the roots fully utilize the Classic System.

01 · Prepare the plant liners

Fit the Classic System components into both plant liners and spread the supplied LECHUZA-PON as the base layer.

02 · Plant evenly

Add suitable substrate and distribute the plants and weight evenly between the two removable plant liners.

03 · Place the BALCONERA

Secure the outer planter with the optional balcony brackets or place it on a stable, flat surface.

04 · Water in two stages

Initially, you water from the top. When the roots reach the moisture zone, you use the water reservoir and the MIN/MAX indicator.

The Smart Spot

The planter stays. The plants move.

The BALCONERA outer planter body can remain mounted while the two plant liners lift out separately using their handles. This lets you plant, clean or move each arrangement away from extreme weather without dismantling the complete installation.

For hot summer weather

The indicator helps — checking is still necessary

The reservoir reduces the frequency of watering, but consumption changes with sun, wind, and planting density. During heat waves or on very exposed balconies, check the indicator and substrate moisture daily.

Where it fits

01On a suitable balcony railing, with genuine LECHUZA balcony brackets sold separately.
02On a wall, with the correct mounting system and ensuring surface strength.
03Freestanding on a stable windowsill, low table, or flat surface, without it being necessary to hang.

What can you plant

01Petunias, calibrachoas, verbenas, and other flowering balcony plants with similar needs.
02Basil, parsley, chives, and mixed aromatic plant compositions.
03Strawberries, lettuces, and arugula, with planting that does not exceed the recommended height of 30 cm.

Before using it outdoors

In an uncovered location, remove the drainage plug from the bottom so that excess rainwater can drain away. If the BALCONERA is hung, use suitable genuine LECHUZA fittings, follow the installation instructions, and ensure that the railing or wall can safely support the total weight.

Frequently asked questions

Are the balcony brackets included?

No. The LECHUZA balcony brackets and their optional extension are sold separately. The BALCONERA can also be placed freely on a stable, flat surface.

What does the All-in-One Set include?

Includes the BALCONERA outer planter body Color 80, two removable plant liners with recessed handles, the Classic System equipment, and LECHUZA-PON for the base layers. Plants and additional substrate are not included.

Do I fill the reservoir immediately after planting?

For the first few weeks, water from above, until the roots reach the moisture zone. Then you can transition to reservoir watering: fill it about halfway and observe if the level drops in the following days. When the plant starts drawing water, use the filling shaft and the MAX indicator normally.

When do I refill the reservoir?

When the indicator reaches MIN, allow the appropriate dry phase for your plants and then fill up to MAX. Its duration depends on the type, location, temperature, and wind. On very hot days, check the indicator and the substrate moisture daily.

Is it suitable for outdoor use and rain?

Yes. For use in an uncovered outdoor area, remove the drain plug from the base so excess rainwater can drain away, reducing the risk of waterlogging.

Can I use it without hanging it?

Yes. It can stand on a sturdy, flat surface protected from strong wind. Ensure the surface supports the entire planter base and can bear the weight when it is planted and filled with water.

What plant height can I use?

LECHUZA specifies a maximum plant height of 30 cm for the BALCONERA. Distribute the weight evenly and check that the height and growth of the plants do not affect the stability of the planter.
