Family: Araceae • Pot diameter: 12 cm, Height: 45 cm
Long, narrow and… brutally spectacular 📏
The “Queen Anthurium” stands out with oversized, narrow, pendant leaves in deep velvety green with striking silver venation. Slow, demanding grower for collectors who love drama.
Near an east/north window with strong, indirect light. Needs humidity >60–70% and good air movement; avoid drafts and dry heat. Very free-draining, organic-rich medium for root oxygenation.
Taxonomic history: Genus Anthurium (Araceae), subfamily Pothoideae. The species warocqueanum was described from tropical Colombia.
Habitat & range: Understory of humid Colombian forests; filtered light, high humidity, stable temperatures and airy, organic substrates.
Etymology: Honorific epithet likely referencing a botanist/patron of the era — widely known as the “Queen Anthurium” for its regal appearance.
Ecology & biology: Velutinous leaf surface with pronounced, silvery venation. Pendant habit; sensitive to low humidity and poor air movement.
Allies & distinction: Differs from A. crystallinum/magnificum by its very long, narrow leaves and hanging presence; veins higher-contrast.
Propagation & stability: Primarily in vitro for uniformity; nursery division of rhizomes in controlled settings. Performance depends on humidity/temperature and aeration.
Conservation & threats: Availability of cultivated material reduces pressure on wild stocks; sensitive to habitat loss.
