Alocasia 'Frydek Variegata' is one of the most striking variegated Alocasias, with velvety dark green leaves, bold white veins and irregular cream-white markings that make every leaf unique. The contrast between deep green, clean venation and bright variegation creates an almost fabric-like, luxurious effect, like a tropical leaf with a naturally detailed pattern. Even at a young size it already has a collectible character, while as it matures it can develop into a true statement indoor plant with strong presence, texture and rare foliage beauty. Place it in a warm indoor space with very bright indirect light, ideally near a curtained window or in a spot with plenty of diffused light. Alocasia 'Frydek Variegata' needs enough light to support its pale variegation, but strong direct sun can mark the leaves, especially the white-cream sections. Avoid cold draughts, sudden temperature changes and a pot that stays constantly wet. Place/habitat & distribution: Alocasia micholitziana is naturally distributed in the Philippines, on Luzon. As a tropical aroid, it is associated with protected, humid environments, where light is filtered and the air remains warm. This origin explains its preference for indoor warmth, diffused light and stable conditions.
Naming: The trade name Frydek Variegata has become linked with the variegated form of the well-known “Green Velvet” type. The word “variegata” describes the bright cream-white areas on the foliage, while “velvet” comes from the matt, velvety texture of the leaves.
