Acer palmatum 'Beni Maiko' Pot diameter:19cm, Height:50-60cm.
Award of Garden Merit, Royal Horticulture Society.
'Beni Maiko' is a fantastic variety of Japanese Acer with lovely red new foliage. Its Japanese name means 'a dancing girl with red hair'. The leaves are small (about 5cm), but their colour in Spring is unique and the show is even better in early Summer when the first leaves mature and new leaves grow on the tips of the shoots. A unique garden plant! It grows slowly and forms a dense shrub with an oval or almost round shape. Pruning is not necessary but can be done if one wishes to shape it. Its beautiful fire-red leaves are even more showcased when combined with shrubs of a different colour. A hardy plant, it needs no special care.
