What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Calathea‘Fusion White’

White, green and a little purple underneath, because it can 🤍

Family: Marantaceae · Pot diameter: 7 cm · Height: 15 cm

  • White-green marbling
  • Pink-purple reverses
  • Unique pattern on every leaf
  • Fine rippled blade
  • Collectable luminous crown

Calathea ‘Fusion White’ resembles a watercolour of white, mint, multiple greens and an unexpected pink-purple brushstroke beneath. Every fine blade carries different marbling and a softly rippled edge, allowing even a young crown to look full of movement and detail. On a bright shelf, desk or small low cabinet it acts as a collectable luminous jewel that refreshes a neutral room without needing great volume.

As blades change angle through the day, the white-green upper pattern alternates with small glimpses of purple beneath. Beside pale timber it gains soft natural elegance; against charcoal or deep green, white becomes clearer and purple adds discreet refined depth.

What makes it special

Unpredictable white-green marbling, rippled blades and purple reverses create a crown like a living watercolour.

Form

Elliptic to lance-shaped blades have pointed tips, rippled edges and gather in compact basal clumps.

Colour

White and pale green areas marble across multiple green tones, with pink-purple shades on the reverse.

Texture

The fine softly satin surface and rippling alter pattern intensity as light moves.

Why you’ll love it: it turns every blade into a unique watercolour and changes through the day by revealing purple beneath.

In your space Placement & plant pairings Where it looks its best and which plants complement it
In your space

Where it looks its best

On a bright shelf or in a small-plant corner where the 6 cm pot is easy to inspect. Avoid an oversized decorative cover pot that can hide standing water at the base.

Plant pairings

Plants that complement it

Choices with compatible light needs and contrasting textures keep the arrangement balanced.

  • Adiantum raddianum — airy tiny leaflets around the bright marbling.
  • Philodendron micans — deep velvet green that makes white look cleaner.
  • Hoya carnosa ‘Compacta’ — sculpted waxy leaves with a completely different rhythm.

Care at a glance

Light

Plentiful bright filtered light without harsh direct sun.

Water

Maintain gentle even moisture and water as the surface begins to dry.

Atmosphere

Higher humidity, gentle airflow and roughly 18–27°C, without cold draughts.

Pets

Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, but it is not food.

Detailed care Complete care guide Light, watering, humidity, substrate and nutrition in detail

Filtered light

Provide a bright position with diffused light. Harsh sun fades the pattern and scorches thin blades, while deep shade reduces contrast.

Steady gentle moisture

Check the surface and the pot's weight. Water evenly as drying begins and allow excess to drain away.

Humidity with airflow

Combine higher humidity with gentle airflow. Very dry air stresses the edges, while stagnant moisture encourages spotting.

A warm stable setting

Maintain roughly 18–27°C and distance from air conditioning, radiators and cold glass. Abrupt changes quickly affect the foliage.

Calathea mix

Use the specialised Calathea mix, balancing even moisture with aeration. Repot one size up only when roots fill the pot.

Gentle feeding

During active growth use Liquid Gold Leaf according to the label and on already moist mix. Reduce when growth slows.

Botanical identity Origin of the cultivar The species’ range and the history of the cultivated selection

Natural range

The accepted botanical basis is Goeppertia lietzei, native to eastern Brazil; the older Calathea lietzei is a synonym.

Habitat

The species is associated with wet tropical habitat and the diffused light of the lower forest layer.

Botanical identity

‘Fusion White’ was discovered as a spontaneous mutation in cultivated Calathea lietzei in Malaysia in 2007 and was registered under US plant patent USPP26187P2.

From natural habitat to care: Origin in the lower layer of wet tropical forest explains the preference for a bright filtered setting, gentle steady moisture and protection from dry or cold draughts.

Greenleaf for Plant Nerds Scientific facts nobody asked for Botanical details for anyone curious about the plant behind the foliage

Variegation arose as a whole-plant mutation

The primary record describes a chance stable mutation found in cultivation of the species and maintained vegetatively.

Every leaf carries a different pattern

The distribution of green and white tissue changes in every developing blade, while the cultivar remains clonally true to its core traits.

Blades move through nyctinasty

A jointed tissue at the base changes cellular pressure and alters leaf angle between day and night.

Purple colour comes from anthocyanins

Red and purple pigments beneath the blade absorb selected wavelengths and create the deep colour ground.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about growth and the plant’s most common signals.

01 Is it the same as ‘Stella’?

No. ‘Stella’ is a later distinct mutation found within cultivated ‘Fusion White’ and has its own registration and morphological traits.

02 Why are the edges turning brown?

Check dry air, mineral-rich water, irregular watering and harsh sun. Correct the cause and trim only tissue that is completely dry.

03 Why do the leaves rise at night?

It is normal nyctinastic movement that changes the blade angle between day and night.

04 What does one yellow leaf mean?

One old lower leaf may age normally. Several at once call for checks of moisture, drainage, temperature and roots.

05 When does it need repotting?

When roots have genuinely filled the pot or the mix has lost its structure. Move up one size only.

06 Is it safe for pets?

Goeppertia species are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Persistent chewing of any plant material should still be discouraged.
