What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Rebutia marsoneri

You thought he'd be the quiet type. Then came the flowers 🌼

Family: Cactaceae · Pot diameter: 5.5 cm · Approximate height: 12 cm

  • Rounded stems
  • Fine white spines
  • Yellow–orange flowers
  • Clustering growth
  • Very bright position

Rebutia marsoneri brings the charm of a cactus collection into small, rounded stems. White areoles and fine spines form a delicate mesh over the green body, revealing more detail the closer you look.

When it flowers, miniature geometry gives way to bright yellow to orange blooms opening low around the stems. Offsets gradually build a fuller silhouette, like a little gathering sharing the same floral wreath.

What makes it special

Flowers take centre stage, while the intricate body remains attractive throughout the year.

Flowers around the base

Their low position creates a bright outline around the rounded crown.

Spiral organisation

Small tubercles and areoles form a rhythmic pattern across the stem surface.

A collection in one pot

Offsets gradually reshape the silhouette as a cluster develops.

Why you will love it: it combines the detail of a miniature sculpture with the delight of striking flowers.

In your space Placement & plant pairings Where to place it and how to combine it
In your space

Where it looks its best

Choose a bright windowsill or a sheltered outdoor shelf with sun after gradual acclimatisation. Terracotta and simple ceramics leave the flowers to provide the colour.

Plant pairings

Plants to pair it with

Three contrasting silhouettes for a bright collection, each in its own pot with its drying cycle checked separately.

  • Rebutia nitida — denser spines beside its fine mesh.
  • Mammillaria elongata — cylindrical stems for a change of height.
  • Astrophytum asterias — a low geometric shape for a calm contrast.

Care at a glance

Light

Very bright light and sun with gradual acclimatisation. Avoid overheating behind glass.

Water

During growth, water thoroughly after the mix dries. Keep much drier during cool rest.

Climate

Good airflow and protection from frost and winter rain.

Pets

Fine spines can cause injury. Keep away from chewing and contact with eyes or noses.

Detailed care Complete care guide Light, water, climate, growing medium and feeding

Light and acclimatisation

Increase sun exposure gradually. Do not move it directly from shade to the hottest balcony position.

The watering cycle

Check pot weight and moisture below the surface. Once the mix is dry and the plant is growing, water evenly and empty the saucer.

Airflow

Avoid closed terrariums and stagnant humid air. The small pot needs free drainage, without standing in water.

Rest and flowering

In winter, keep it bright, cool and frost-free with very limited water. Maturity and a seasonal cycle support flowering without guaranteeing it.

Mix and repotting

Use a porous cactus mix and a pot with a drainage hole. Repot only when roots need room, choosing a slightly larger diameter.

Feeding and handling

Use cactus fertiliser only during active growth, following its label. If fresh compost contains nutrients, respect its stated feeding delay. Support the cluster carefully and protect your hands. Sybasoil Cacti & Succulent Premium Mix provides initial nutrition for about 180 days; afterwards, adjust feeding to active growth.

Botanical identity Identity & natural origin Identity, synonyms and natural range

Identity

Rebutia marsoneri is a true cactus in the family Cactaceae.

Name history

Erich Werdermann published the name in 1937. Botanical literature also records Rebutia minuscula var. marsoneri.

Natural origin

It originates in northern Argentina and belongs to the small mountain Rebutia group associated with rocky sites and crevices.

From natural habitat to care: The limited rooting space of rocky sites helps explain the need for air and drainage. In a pot, use a porous mix and allow a drying cycle; a mountain origin does not mean the plant should be exposed to frost.

Areoles: growing points

The little white cushions are specialised short shoots characteristic of the cactus family.

A green stem

The fleshy body carries out photosynthesis and stores water, while ordinary leaves have no conspicuous role.

Spirals without a ruler

Tubercles follow the development of the growing tip, producing the repeating surface pattern.

Vegetative branching

Offsets develop from lateral buds, allowing a cluster to expand without producing seeds.

Frequently asked questions

Practical details for this small, rounded collector's cactus.

01 Will it arrive in flower?

Flowers depend on season and individual development and are not guaranteed.

02 Can it stay outdoors?

Yes, in a sheltered position without frost risk, with gradual sun acclimatisation.

03 When should I water?

When the mix is dry through its depth and conditions support active growth. Reduce water greatly during cool rest.

04 Why is it growing tall and thin?

Elongated new growth may indicate insufficient light. Improve lighting gradually.

05 Should I remove the offsets?

There is no need. Clustering is a natural growth habit and part of its appeal.

06 Does softness mean thirst?

Not necessarily. First check whether the roots are dry or the mix stays wet, as excess moisture can cause rot.
