What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Deciduous flowering outdoor shrub · Lythraceae · compact upright freely branching habit

Lagerstroemia indica With Love® Virgin (‘Milabla’)

It flowers so generously, you may suspect it is showing off on purpose 😉

Family: Lythraceae · Pot diameter: 19cm (3L) · Height: 40cm

  • Pure white flowers
  • Compact shrub
  • Summer focal glow
  • For pots & borders

Lagerstroemia indica With Love® Virgin (‘Milabla’) turns a sunny setting into a luminous summer scene, with pure white, softly ruffled flower clusters appearing to float above dark foliage. Its compact, full outline feels polished without becoming heavy. This is the bright white flowering accent that calms stronger colours, lifts an entrance and instantly gives a terrace or garden a considered, premium finish.

Flowering begins in summer and, while the weather remains warm, fresh waves may continue into autumn. The blooms retain their clean white tone, while the dense branching provides a handsome framework between flowering flushes.

What makes it special

White bloom, dense branching and a long season of interest come together in a small but highly expressive crape myrtle.

White that stays clean

The crinkled petals open pure white and gather in generous terminal flower clusters.

Full compact outline

Numerous upright shoots build a dense shrub that looks balanced from every side.

Flowers above foliage

The clusters stand above the dark green base, creating a crisp luminous contrast.

Why you will love it: it delivers the effect of a lavish white-flowering shrub in a scale that remains elegant and versatile.

Planting position

Luminous summer focus

Place in full sun near an entrance, seating area or the front of a border where the white clusters can be seen clearly. Allow roughly 50–60cm from neighbouring compact plants for an uncluttered outline.

Colour & compatibility

White, blue and movement

The white flowers act as a luminous bridge between fine grasses and cool blue or purple blooms.

  • Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ — dark purple spires that sharpen the pure white flowers.
  • Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ — soft curves that bring movement around the compact shrub.
  • Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ — low blue flowers that finish the base elegantly.

Care at a glance

Light

Full sun in a warm, sheltered position for a generous floral display.

Watering

Maintain even moisture during establishment and summer heat, while allowing complete drainage between waterings.

Climate & hardiness

Deciduous; established plants tolerate about −15°C, but young container plants benefit from protection during severe frost.

Safety

Crape myrtle is not considered toxic to dogs or cats, but it is not intended for consumption.

Detailed care Complete care guide Eight practical points for abundant flowering and a dense, balanced canopy.

Position

Full sun in a warm, sheltered position for a generous floral display.

Watering

Maintain even moisture during establishment and summer heat, while allowing complete drainage between waterings.

Soil

Fertile, organic, deep and very well-drained soil or growing mix.

Feeding

Apply a light balanced feed in early spring; excess nitrogen promotes leaves at the expense of flowers.

Seasonal behaviour

Deciduous; established plants tolerate about −15°C, but young container plants benefit from protection during severe frost.

Pruning & clearing

Remove dead, weak or crossing wood in late winter and shape only lightly before new growth begins.

Safety

Crape myrtle is not considered toxic to dogs or cats, but it is not intended for consumption.

Reading the plant

Sparse flowering often points to insufficient sun, a cool summer or excessive nitrogen feeding.

Development over time How the white shrub matures Three stages from root establishment to a generous white summer canopy.

Root establishment

During the first year the plant builds roots and short structural shoots.

Canopy thickening

New lateral branches fill the centre and increase the number of flowering tips.

White flowering cloud

The mature summer canopy carries abundant terminal white clusters.

What to expect after planting: During the first season, root establishment comes before the fullest flower display. As new shoot tips multiply, the white summer canopy becomes richer and more even from year to year.

History & origin Cultivar origin Piero Frangi · Vertemate con Minoprio, Italy · selected in 1999

The story of Lagerstroemia indica ‘Milabla’, now marketed as With Love® Virgin, began in 1998 in Piero Frangi’s breeding programme at Vertemate con Minoprio, Italy. Seeds produced by the open pollination of 33 unnamed, unpatented proprietary plants were pooled and sown. In 1999, Frangi singled out one unique white-flowered seedling from the resulting population. Because the seed had been pooled and pollination was open, its exact parents remain unknown.

The selection combined a well-branched habit with early, extended flowering, white flowers, good tolerance of powdery mildew and observed frost resistance. That same year, Frangi began propagating it by stem cuttings at Vertemate con Minoprio; successive generations retained its characteristics true to type.

‘Milabla’ was submitted for EU plant variety protection on 28 May 2014 and for a US plant patent on 19 November 2014. It joined the With Love® series as Virgin, one of the series’ five colour selections.

US Plant Patent PP26,876, naming Frangi as inventor and Fondazione Minoprio as assignee, was granted on 28 June 2016. EU plant variety right 47221 followed on 3 July 2017.

Greenleaf for Plant Nerds Science nobody asked for Botanical details for anyone curious about what lies behind the plant’s appearance

Terminal thyrses on new growth

The white inflorescences are branched thyrses at the tips of current-season lateral shoots, so fresh growth builds the flowering framework.

Six stalked, crinkled petals

Each flower usually carries six kidney-shaped petals on slender claws, with strongly undulate, toothed margins that create the crêpe texture.
