What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

COURTYARD® SHRUB ROSE · ROSACEAE · DOUBLE YELLOW FLOWERS

Rosa ‘Poulchin’ Chinatown™

Your grandmother would love it. Why wouldn’t you? 🌹

Family: Rosaceae · Pot diameter: 3 L · Current height: 30–40 cm

  • Warm yellow flowers
  • Pink-flushed ageing edges
  • Strong fragrance
  • Tall bushy habit

Rosa ‘Poulchin’ Chinatown™ is a tall bushy rose with large double yellow flowers that often develop pink-flushed edges as they age. Blooms appear in small clusters and carry a strong fragrance, creating a rich display without becoming excessively formal. Strong upright canes open upwards and give the cultivar enough presence for the rear of a small border.

Use it as a bright vertical point behind lower perennials or beside a sunny fence, repeating yellow in small accents rather than creating an entirely monochrome scheme.

RHS Award of Garden Merit.

What makes it distinctive

Three elements define this exact cultivar’s form and presence.

Large double flowers

Many petals form full flowers about 8–10 cm across in small clusters.

Changing petal edge

Exposed edges can acquire a pink flush as the bloom ages.

Courtyard® scale

The strong shrubby framework can act as a tall courtyard rose or a short trained climber.

Why you will love it: because large double flowers gains a clear presence on a tall bushy or trained framework, without excessive styling.

Colour & compatibility

Compatible combinations

  • Salvia yangii ‘Blue Spire’ — cool blue spikes balance warm yellow in a dry sunny edge
  • Echinacea purpurea — pink daisies retain upright summer structure in front of the rose

Position & light

Full sun, ideally at least six hours, with air moving around the foliage.

Watering & drainage

Water deeply when the upper 3–4 cm have dried; avoid small daily amounts.

Soil & repotting

Deep fertile but free-draining soil with organic matter and no standing water around roots.

Feeding

Pruning & habit

Prune in late winter according to the natural habit, removing dead, weak or crossing canes. When grown as a shrub, remove one old cane at the base rather than shortening every tall axis equally.

Problem prevention

Water at the root, clear fallen leaves and inspect young shoots for aphids or fungal spotting.

Development through timeFrom establishment to mature habitFrom first establishment to the exact plant’s natural mature habit.

First season

During the first season it directs energy into root establishment and a few strong new shoots rather than filling its final space immediately.

Establishment

Each new cycle adds basal canes of different ages, carrying the repeated flowering display.

Mature scale

With long-term growth it reaches about 1.5–2 m in height and 1–1.5 m in width, forming a tall bushy or trained framework.
