What does the legal guarantee mean for plants?

The legal guarantee concerns the plant’s conformity at delivery. It is not a guarantee of survival or growth for two years. Each issue is assessed taking into account the nature of the plant, its care and the conditions in which it is kept. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Mandevilla ‘Sunpa 421’ Sundaville® Double Blush Pink does not merely add a few petals: it transforms the familiar funnel into a broad, tactile, fully layered rosette. Soft blush tones deepen towards the centre above glossy dark foliage. Stable doubleness, upright branching and continuous summer renewal make it genuinely different from an ordinary mandevilla. Every rosette rewards a closer look.

It is a jewel plant for a terrace, entrance or poolside where every flower can be enjoyed close up. The image is tropical and romantic yet the outline remains clean and contemporary—the exact combination that earned it the FleuroStar distinction.

What makes it distinctive

Sundaville® Double Blush Pink is distinguished by double anatomy and two further characters specific to this exact selection.

Double anatomy

Additional petaloid organs fill the centre to create a rosette rather than a simple funnel.

Blush gradation

A pale exterior warms towards the throat, giving visual depth without a hard contrast.

Judged visual appeal

FleuroStar recognised its immediately legible innovation and strong flowering presentation.

Why you will love it: it is the rare case where real botanical innovation becomes a flower everyone immediately wants to touch and photograph.

Planting position

Best position

Place it in a warm, sunny position beside a permanent trellis or vertical mesh. Train more than one stem over the support so its true climbing habit forms a dense surface of double flowers.

Colour & compatibility

Compatible planting

Combine with Dichondra argentea ‘Silver Falls’, Gaura lindheimeri and Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’ for silver cascade, airy pink and deep purple.

  • Dichondra argentea ‘Silver Falls’ — provides clear foliage contrast and strengthens the palette without competing with the main silhouette.
  • Gaura lindheimeri — extends the composition with a different flowering season and compatible light, position and soil moisture.
  • Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’ — adds linear texture and movement without hiding the plant’s characteristic mature outline.

Care at a glance

Light

A very bright sunny position after gradual acclimatisation. At the height of a heatwave, morning sun limits scorch and bud drop.

Water

Water deeply as the surface dries and always empty the saucer. Alternating severe drought with saturation causes buds to drop.

Climate & hardiness

Warm-loving and frost tender. Growth slows below roughly 10–12 °C, so move it promptly to a bright protected position.

Safety

The white milky sap can irritate skin and eyes. Wear gloves when pruning and prevent ingestion.

Soil & drainage

Use a rich but aerated mix with perlite or pumice and generous drainage. Roots require oxygen even while the plant is using water rapidly.

Feeding

Feed little and often during active growth with adequate potassium and trace elements. Stop as nights cool and new growth slows.

Pruning & support

Pinch lightly after a flowering flush and train at least two flexible stems over the permanent support. Tie them loosely where needed and remove only excessively long or weak growth before overwintering.

Winter

Move before the first cold spell to a frost-free place with abundant light and less frequent watering. Check leaf undersides for spider mites.

Development over timeFrom young plant to mature presenceEstablishment, specific architecture and the plant's real mature garden volume.

Initial establishment

Once adjusted to the new light level, it activates side shoots and successive flowering tips. Stable temperature and watering in response to surface drying limit bud loss.

Building its form

The young plant first builds an upright branched frame. As nodes multiply, each tip can carry successive double flowers, producing a narrow flowering column rather than a loose vine.

Mature expression

At maturity it grows as a true climber about 70 cm high and 30–40 cm wide, with several trained stems and double flowers over the support.

History & originCultivar originMNP/Suntory’s ‘Sunpa 421’ Sundaville® Double Blush Pink, a true climber and FleuroStar 2023–2024 winner.

Selection ‘Sunpa 421’ is marketed as Sundaville® Double Blush Pink through the MNP/Suntory programme. The series describes it as a true climber of medium vigour, about 70 cm tall, with flowers roughly 75 mm across from spring to autumn.

Its layered blush-pink corolla made it the first truly double Sundaville® and led to Fleuroselect’s FleuroStar 2023–2024 distinction. The award recognised both the novelty of the flower form and its immediate visual impact.

Developmental petaloidy

In double flowers, a shift in floral-organ identity produces extra petaloid members instead of ordinary stamens. The additional layers belong to one floral meristem and form a single layered corolla rather than two flowers.

Stability through vegetative propagation

Complex floral morphogenesis may segregate in sexual offspring. Clonal propagation preserves the same meristem programme and therefore the dense double corolla of ‘Sunpa 421’.

Frequently asked questions

Six precise answers for Sundaville® Double Blush Pink, from its present scale to mature behaviour.

01What does the present size of Sundaville® Double Blush Pink mean?

The listed approx. 60 cm is its height on arrival. Long-term placement must allow for a mature scale of about 70 cm by 30–40 cm rather than today's young outline.

02Where will Sundaville® Double Blush Pink perform best?

Use alone in an elegant pot near seating or an entrance, in very bright light with a discreet small support, so the double rosettes are visible close up from every side.

03How do I know when Sundaville® Double Blush Pink needs water?

Water deeply as the surface dries and always empty the saucer. Alternating severe drought with saturation causes buds to drop.

04When should I prune Sundaville® Double Blush Pink?

Pinch lightly after a flowering flush to increase side branching. Shorten excessively long shoots before overwintering without hard-pruning a stressed plant.

05Will every flower be fully double?

The cultivar was selected for stable doubleness, although natural variation in petaloid-organ number may occur between early and mature flowers.

06Should spent double flowers be removed?

It is not essential, but gentle removal once they release easily keeps the crown clean. Do not pull the flower stalk forcefully.
